I would like to know of any camps that may/will require additional manning (TG 1) in the near future. I'm currently serving in HMF on the Good Ship Cottesmore, and we have been told that JFH manning will suffer a large draw down in the near(ish) future.

We have been instructed to update JPA posting preferences but been told to 'be realistic', whatever that means.

So I was just wondering what are the most likely destinations for my next exciting move? Is the new Nimrod line at Kinloss manned? Is Marham full?

Or will we be gradually moved over to wherever the new Chinnies are going to be based?

Can't speak for other units, but Marham never seems full, if you put it down you'll get it, it'll be a bay or working in CMU (exTASF) with bae, I don't think there are many slots first line, if any.

The nimrod idea is a non starter for definite. There are huge manpower uncertainties up here.

i wouldnt count on it cmu is going civvie as is the engine bay :PDT_Xtremez_42:

All cmu? They just got rid of load of civvies a couple of months back. Not heard anything like that, the contract had % of raf working there. The engine bay is going, but all the other bays are still open with no closing date.

Cheers for replies, I assume Marham Depth will be pretty much the same as here, a lot of twitchy civvies at the moment, 20 odd binned already with more to follow by the sounds of it, but as mentioned above I think the contract specifies a ratio of bae connies to RAF, at least you haven't got the crazy useless navy to deal with as well

Brize always seems a really hard place to get into mate, or maybe it's me and I don't know the funny handshake. :PDT_Xtremez_21:

Have you gone through project appollo to find out what's available. Although that's not perfect, can go down the route of
'What posts are available?'
'Well tell us what you want.'
'I'd just like to know.'
'Tell us first.'
Etc etc.

Sorry not much help apart from suggesting depth marham. I do know it's easy to get into.

Being "Realistic" means not populating JPA with places where there are no posts established for your rank & trade. I suggest you utilise the Project APOLLO facility that is in place at Cottesmore. Or if you are a SNCO, phone the drafter direct and get it straight from the Horse's mouth!

Thanks for input everyone, I'll have a word with our admin types, I assume they'll be inundated with worried punters at the minute though.

Ever decreasing RAF, places closing/reducing in size.

Whats increasing? Chinooks!

22 more Chinnies needs lots more manpower. If I was a drafter type person in charge I'd be looking at the Cott manpower and posting it straight to Chinnies. That way the manpower would be able to get some experience in before the Chinnies roll of the line.

Either that or the Tonka brigade.

So there are your 3 choices for JPA, Odiham, Lossiemouth or Marham.:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Have you thought about the Strategic Tanker at BZN? If your serious enough about your licences or have even been completing a record of your work it might be worth a place on your wish list.

Benson maybe? Flying Bananas are eventually going to end up there allegedly.

mmmmmmmm may need the services of cheap ruthless divorce lawyer.

Been given the number of some Cpl who can advise me on Apollo type business, I'll be ringing in the morning.

I didn't quite understand if she will try the drafters for me, offer advice herself or just arrange for me to see the deputy/chief clerk, which I'm fairly sure won't be that productive as I assume a lot of people will be after moves and no figures or time frame for the reduction in manning have even been mentioned yet.

I thought about Brize, are they still working those fancy shifts? The tanker/license thing sounds ideal, wasn't there a rumour that the deal may all fall through unless more money is pumped in? Is there a timescale for when they are getting there, I thought it was years off still?

No more word on MRA4 for the time being then? Was really hoping to get up there (in any slot, really) after I finish here in Lincs... Still got about a year or so here anyway, so guess I'll just keep watching that space! I think we'll probably all have a bit more of a clue after this next defence review, a lot could change off the back of that! :PDT_Xtremez_21:

In the next 3-6 months, there is going to be a mass exodus from ISK what with the Line, Software teams and the bays etc... closing down, which on a rough estimate is approximately 250 techies of all ranks and trades looking for new jobs. I'd say that MRA4 will pretty much fill up it's scaling for manning this year from this. Obviously they will only take a small number of personnel and the rest will take up empty slots across the RAF wherever they are needed....

...BUT, according to my local barber, who heard it from a friend who knows a cleaner somewhere in the RAF, there isn't 250 Techie posts needing filling at this moment in time...

There's someone here who can't get into AFCO duties because allegedly the AV SNCO manning is at 76%. Read into that what you will...

IIRC the US Army is current getting the bulk of their new "F" model Chinnies off the production line and any new UK Chinnies may still be a couple of years away.

I don't think there's going to be a rush to fill ODI full of more techies for some time yet.

Harriers are supposedly reducing - so expect some movement away from Cottesmore - Towards Witt? Who knows?

And the Marham thing... ALL going civvy?...I dont think so! I'm told that only Contractors were recently binned due to a reduced workload (and no - I don't know what that workload was)

Nimrods are going - so there will be a glut of guys floating away from there until they've sorted the replacement out - another couple of years for RC-135 purchase and conversion methinks.

Just my opinion - from what I've read in a wide variety of places.

I looked at moving back into trade a few months ago (October 09).

The gen at the time was that any TG1/2 coming back into trade would be going straight to heli's as that was where the shortfalls lay.

Not sure how much has changed of late butas has been said before, speak to ACOS Manning and get the latest gen from them.
