I'll be posting this on to Arrse but any point of view would be helpful.

My (now dead) mates son joined the army at 16 last year wanting to follow in his dads footsteps. He completed his ATR at Bassingbourne and went to Catterick for his phase 2 about 3 weeks ago. On Wednesday 19th he injured his knee ( I dont know the full extent of the injury but he can walk and weight bear on the leg ) and Today Friday 21st he has been told that he will be medically discharged on Monday 24th. Does this seem right to anyone. I would have expected him to at least have had physio and perhaps a back squadding but after completing 20 weeks basic training at Bassingbourne I dont understand how he can be just booted out in such a quick way.

He's asked for and been refused an adjutants interview by his 2Lt, who is the guy that has "made the medical decison" to have him discharged.

Does this sound right and does anyone know where I can find the right help and info to help the lad out. He's lived for the Army (nobber) since his dad died and he's heartbroken, personally I'm about to tab up to catterick and mallet his 2Lt.

That sounds far too fast, to the point of they are pulling a fast one, He must sit a medical board, and that takes months to arrange, let alone to get the results.

The med centre do not make them decisions. He should call the British legion and get in touch with SPVA.

I was med discharged and from being diagnosed to out was about 3 years. But he should be given full medical treatment, ie surgery physio etc way before they even tell him he is out on a med discharge.

There is also the chance he has got his wires crossed, he could have been told he will be discharged from training and put onto pool flt until fit

I agree with Pie Sandwich here.

If he is still in training then they may have different rules to the rest of the 'operational' services, so he would prob just be back coursed, which has happened to people suffering broken legs etc whilst doing sports.

In any case, he won't/shouldn't be getting kicked out the Services this quick.

I am sure all will be made clear when he gets back to 'work'

I'm not trying to cast aspersions but it might be worth tabbing up there just on the off chance he's telling porkies and is being sacked for something completely different. It's never been that easy to med discharge anyone trainee or otherwise

This sounds like bollox he may be getting downgraded but there is no way to be discharged without a medical board if it is med grounds. If he has had a previous medical condition that make him ineligable for service and he lied about it on his application then it may be different but still not 100% on that

??

??

a med disharge should be subject to a med review by qualified doctors not by some jumped up army t1t. tell this lad to get his arrse round to the local padre/chaplain and he should be able to sort this out quicher than his troop commander (i have some experience of this having served in the army) it should hopefully get sorted out then

Spoke to my old man (ex RAF) and although he wasn't in the med trades he reckons it's complete bollocks and that it should take months to boot someone out on medical grounds if it was found after basic training :PDT_Xtremez_42:

Thanks for all your input guys. The lads and lasses over on ARRSE all feel the same why. My first worry was that he'd been CDT'd and copped it but to be honest I should have known better as he's too switched on for that.

I managed to get a call through to his Pltn Sgt, which wasn't easy as I'm not his next of kin. The up shot of it is that the 2Lt pretty much hates with a passion all of the young lads that pass out from ATR Bassingbourne. He's already binned 2 others one of whom was the best recruit at ATR. He basically sees them as kids (he's 17 now) and not worthy of his time. I've been assured that although he will probably be back squadded two weeks he will not be Med Discharged. The 2Lt's also in the sh1t as he tried to get two lads to sign their DOR papers by telling them they were other "official" stuff and wouldn't let them read what they were signing.

Me thinks the tw@tty fukc nut needs to be taught some life lessons.

Thanks again to you all, proof again of goat power.

Cheers mateys:PDT_Xtremez_30:

A 2LT? so he's been in the army all of 10 minutes himself (unless he's a hairy of course) Worth pushing this one mate. Bypass the zob and get in contact with the commandant I say. If you're going to rock the boat - start with the Captain......

x1 Redress form should do it. And the fecker 'aint going much high than 2Lt and he will be posted straight out.

The lad will have him on professional misconduct, bullying and if he can get his mate's to back him up on the fact that he tried to get them to sign off under false pretence's then he can include fraud in that too.

Get him strung up by the clackers!!!

Pongo's getting sorted out by the RAF..............whatever next.
Good skills lads..................:PDT_Xtremez_31:

Flipping heck, im glad I stopped my army application if Pri**s like him were going to be around! :PDT_Xtremez_31:
