Guys, Please help if you can. Here's the situation - I have been downgraded for a back problem since Sept 12. My current exit date is Jul 14 and I'm on AFPS75. I had a micro discectomy in May 13 and was recovering nicely until the beginning of Oct 13 when I woke one morning with back and leg pain again. I have been off work since then pending another micro discectomy for which I have no date yet. Here's where the situation turns completely to rats. I was promoted in Mar 12 but unfortunately broke my collar bone within three days of starting at my new post. Only days after I started back at work, I developed this back problem and was downgraded again and as such, couldn't attend IMLC and hence didn't get offered LOS30. I fully expected to make a full recovery following the surgery in May and as such, expected to be able to complete IMLC and then be offered LOS30. So here's where I need your help - I saw my doc last week and he told me that they need to follow the process to make me NE. Fine, no problem with that. Fully understand the position I have put work in and I know they need the manpower. But it seems that during the process of making me NE, my doc had an email conversation with Med boards and it transpires that they want him to put me to Med Board immediately. He has told me that in doing this, I will need to indicate my intentions wrt Med discharge etc before he proceeds. This email conversation also indicated that even if I can get back to L2 status, it is unlikely that I will be offered LOS30. I have spoken to a couple of people and they have indicated that I "may" be better off taking a med discharge if offered but I cannot find anyone who will confirm this. I have spoken to SAAFA and asked for their help. If I'm being asked to choose whether I should take the med discharge route or stay and complete my 22, surely I need to know what my entitlements are before making such a decision? I had no plans to leave as I love what I do and have always been fully committed to the RAF. Then life comes along and kicks you in the balls as hard as it can. Please help if you can. I am at my wits end. I cant sleep and my head feels like it's going to explode.
