I am hoping someone can help or at least send me in the right direction.

I currently use media player for my music on my PC, I know a lot of people don't like it but I like the layout and it does what I need it to, except recently its been jumping on a few tracks. There doesn't seem to be any particular sense in the tracks, I thought it was something to do with other programs that were running but its been doing it for the last 10 minutes and the only thing open is Firefox.

I know it doesn't get on too well with the program I use for instant messages (its not MSN as my computer doesn't seem to agree with Live Messenger) but it seems to only be a problem with some people that I chat to, not all.

The music that skips originated from my cd collection mainly, not downloaded stuff and there are no problems with the discs that were copied to my hard drive.

Any ideas?

Usually happens when files get moved to a new directory. Sometimes iTunes or a new media player will try and move them into a new library for you. You will also get it's name in red and a cross next to it as it can't find it.

Can also be that you don't have the required codecs (say if it was ripped as realmedia format)

Have never used RealMedia. iTunes took the music from My Music file which is where I've always stored it all and haven't moved anything recently.

I've had the red cross before but that normally won't let you play the track, this is just a pause/skip blank moment.

I have Media Player 11, is there a newer version now or is the most up to date?

try turning the visualisations off. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del and look at the CPU usage value. Sounds like it's being overworked by something!!
