I don't know if any of you are / were MGB owners but I have a question on the fuel pump.

My old MG has been off the road for about 5 years and I decided to try and get it running again.

The fuel pump is completely dead, (an old SU type), I have a new electronic one I bought years ago to replace it but...

The old pump had 4 connections Fuel In / Out and 2 smaller pipes my new pump only has the 2 main connections. Does anyone know what these are for?

One in, and one out.........???:PDT_Xtremez_42:

Thanks TB, I found these sites but none of them explain what the 2 small diameter plastic tubes are for. I guess they're breather pipes but it seems odd that they were attached to the SU pump as well.

I might just buy an SU and have done with it... Along with all the other parts that have siezed! :PDT_Xtremez_42:

Either get a genuine SU (careful not to get a cheap "SU Type" copy)

or do what I've done on the Firenza - stick a Facet on there. There's a reason they're about the most popular motorsport pump :)

For those interested, (All 1 or 2 of you. :PDT_Xtremez_42:), the 2 smaller pipes are breather pipes attached to either side of the pump diaphragm to allow it to move around freely without building up pressure that would restrict movement.

Went to the shop today, (600 mile round trip to Köln and back :PDT_Xtremez_34:), and spent just over 350 quid on bits.... It'd better bleeding start! :PDT_Xtremez_25:

.. Of course it will, fine British engineering! :PDT_Xtremez_30:

How far??? Are they not online.................?

Yes they are, problem is no one will send a battery filled with Acid through the post for obvious reasons. The car has two of them (2x 6V) in series.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh..............! You diddin' mention the batteries. You just said fuel pump. Ah'll let yer off! :PDT_Xtremez_42: :PDT_Xtremez_14:

Had a similar prob when I was at Laarparts in '79 and I blew the bottom end of the engine in my 1750 Austin Maxi. Had to get my dad to buy the engine kit from his local dealer and post it out to me, one week before I was posted back to UK.

Happy days.

Oh Mamma!

It sounded sweet when it fired up today, (Took a bit of tinkering).

.... Now I've found the leak in the radiator! :PDT_Xtremez_14:

€180 a pop, what a bargain!

Still I must say that I've enjoyed working through the faults, certainly has an element of satisfaction when things start working again.

Ah the joys of classic motoring!

I regularly break mine just to experience the endless fun and seemingly limitless expense of running a rare car...
