One of our guys got a 'telling off' yesterday for using a mobile phone whilst wearing uniform - off camp.

Anyone got any idea what the regs are regarding using mobile phones whilst wearing uniform, both on and off camp ?

cheers

Didn't know there were any!! So long as your not bringing the good name into disrepute etc, etc or behaving in a manner prejudicial to good order and whatever; what the fcuk does it have to do with discipline. Sounds like a load of ar$ewipe to me. :PDT_Xtremez_25:

Surely using a cell phone would just be the same as using a public telephone in this instance. Unless of course it was in use while driving. However it might also be the way the uniform was worn.....!!!!! It's a sad turn of affairs if this guy was correctly dressed and just happened to be using the phone, probably using it in his right hand when a zob walked past.

Wasn't there a T-Letter or similar recently that mentioned use of mobile phones in uniform, thinks it may have been the one that was encouraged folk to wear uniforms more in public. If I remember rightly it stated that discrete use of mobile phones in uniform was allowed as long at it was in a authorised place, ie not on the airfield area etc.

There probably isn't a reg, it would just come under one of those catch-all military BS things about being seen to make your way around in uniform in a smart and military type of way. I once got chewed out for chowing down on a Mars bar while walking back from the Naafi to the block and that was the reason cited at me. Similarly smokers don't lightup while moving around in uniform.

Its in SSOs at my location. If you need to make or take a call you stand still and keep your saluting hand free.

Eating whilst moving around camp in uniform is also frowned upon. In fact I have moves are afoot to shore up the orders regarding this because of a case of chewing gum whilst in work.

I've remonstrated

I've remonstrated

Whilst I have never been bollucked whilst walking around on the phone myself, I was once with a SNCO who did Bolluck an airman for using his phone.

I asked him why, he said it was against the rules, I said which rules and he couldn't reply, basically it was his pet hate, however, if you are distracted by the call and fail pay due respects then expect a bollucking.

On camp we're not allowed to walk round while using a mobile phone unless it is a duty phone.

Simply get some of that dyno tape and type your own number on it, stick it to the back of your phone and take as many calls as you want in uniform!

A simple device to overcome this problem would be a "hands-free" bluetooth set, would it not?

............or????:PDT_Xtremez_06::PDT_Xtremez_40:

then you are just wandering round camp talking to yourself and you may find you are sent to the Med Centre for some tubigrip and bruffen to cure you of your madness.

Surely it's a common sense thing. I would never take a mobile phone call whilst walking down the road in uniform and in fact the only people who I have ever seen doing it is Officers and usually flying ones at that (I mean pilots, navs etc not pilot officers!).

It just doesn't look very professional does it????

Surely life is too short for people getting ****ed off by this type of thing?

My wife is pregnant right now so I always have my phone with me, I dont see how the RAF can enforce any rules on you once you are off camp.

Unfortunately, the RAF is full of ****s who just like bollocking people, like the SNCO who was mentioned earlier. People need to get a ****ing grip.

Sometimes, I ****ing hate being in the military.

The stance as I have been told is that you may answer a call whilst in uniform but you should, as mentioned be not walking around and obviously not leaning up against a wall with a fag in your hand or hand in pocket. You just leave yourself open to a hairdryer. I have even seen someone taking a bollocking at a petrol station for not having their berret on and coming out of morrisons cause they forgot to wear their ferret. if you wear the uniform in public expect some **** to go with it.

Thats it isn't it, if you want to wear your uniform in public whether its official or just popping to the shops you portray the Air Force in the best possible light at all times.

The worse ones around here are the pilots in their 'growbags' usually without a hat of any sort on. The lads and girls always look smart and 9 times out of 10 have a hat on.

...My wife is pregnant right now so I always have my phone with me...
That's fair enough, I don't think right-thinking person would have an argument with that

Is this a joke? Please tell me that this is not a serious statement

Close the door on your way out, there's a good chap :PDT_Xtremez_32:

A good and sensible idea. :PDT_Xtremez_30:

You're having a laugh. What air force did you join? :PDT_Xtremez_41: You are subject to military discipline at all times.

If people got a grip with their personal standards of appearance (wandering aimlessly with a phone glued to your head when in uniform presents a very unprofessional picture) then there'd be no need for a bollocking. :PDT_Xtremez_26: Is it really that dificult to stop walking when you take a call on a mobile? It looks a whole lot better.

I see officers walking round with their mobile stuck to their head and often mention to them that they are the ones who should be setting the standard for others to follow. One member of the airborne master race failed to return a salute to me because he was on the phone - with the greatest of respect, I pointed out the error of his ways to him.

Sometimes, I ****ing hate being in the military.
Perhaps being in a disciplined organisation isn't for you. :S Bye. :PDT_Xtremez_32:

Many of the responses have been thought through but the bottom line is that everyone has a duty to uphold the dress standards and military bearing expected by a member of the Royal Air Force. Having a mobile telephone in use whilst moving around, eating/ drinking and smoking cigarettes are all activities that should no be performed whilst on duty and in uniform.

Having a mobile phone on at meals in the Officers Mess is very much frowned upon and I would hope that this example is carried on in other ranks dining facilities.
