Evening all,

First post here on E-Goat so quick intro to myself. I'm a fairly new SAC. Joined start of 08 as an IA, first post was to Stn Int at Marham and I've been at 5Sqn in Waddo since mid-November last year. Dad did a full 35 so I know alittle bit of background to things but not that much.

Just been told today that I "might" be going to Leconfield for a C+E course starting this coming Monday (I'll know for sure tomorrow), but other than its essentially Army run and there's alot of driving going on there, I don't have the foggiest idea about do's/dont's, how long the course is, accomodation etc etc.

I've already got a few taxi numbers down and train stations as I live back in Chester and still saving for a car, but thought I'd post on here and see what feedback and gen everyone has ready for when/if I go. Anything would be great really.

You get all this info from course joining instructions. Every course i've done in the RAF has had joining instructions that tell you everything you need to know!

Check your mail, If you havn't got the joining instructions through the post. Log on to a RAF computer check your email, and then look at Leconfields intranet site. Some courses now have on-line course joining instructions.

As a last resort. Phone the course clerk at Leconfield.

As for dos and donts. There is only one rule. Dont get caught.

Be patient up there and be prepared for long periods of boredom. Its aimed at the lowest pleb so if you are sharper than the average house brick you will quickly realise how the system works.

Good luck and enjoy.

What happened to

What happened to

The driving school at Saints?

I remember getting my HGV3 (or whatever it is known by now) course & completing the course.

Never used it after Saints!

Good advice from Sospan. Just remember that it is ARMY run (ZERO MOD about it). The RAF FS and personnel at the training school are a good bunch and if you have any problems you can see them. They don't really understand the RAF, the Barmy Army so just do basic common sense discipline and you will be left alone.

A word of warning though. Some of the Civvie instructors teaching the boring Powerpoint lessons are ex-Army etc and think they are still in so they tend to lecture the "Children" quite a lot.

Top Tip: Get your own DVLA Theory test book and Test CD well before you go. Could save you lots of hassle.

Anymore then PM me and I will answer tommorrow.

I've had the unfortunate pleasure 3 times in the past.

You've got everything there - booking in and out of camp, lights out curfew at 2230 (may have changed since last year), extra duties (they seem to have about a dozen people on pointless duties such as just maintaining a presence in the NAAFI, Bowl and cinema). Apart from the new 4-man block which is, by all accounts, quite good ALL the other blocks can only be described as appalling - 16 man rooms with a limited supply of hot water, if there is any at all. Bull nights, bed checks, communal charges for all when someone decides to put their fist through the wall. The MOD civvies on the gate seem to think they have powers higher than that of civvy police for some reason. Had to work 2 Saturdays to get the civvy drivers some more overtime coming up to christmas, told on friday evening on both occasions.

You have to do a ridiculous amount of clearing when you leave, you'll get a chewing for not wearing your hat in doors as the Army do, and have a look at the orders posted by the guardroom booking-out hatch; everything is basically a threat. A particular favourite of mine was during the familiarization phase of the HGV or 'fams' - I was told before the weekend that I wouldn't start fams until the next tuesday - but had to turn up monday morning at the roll call - just to be stood down until the next morning (even though I was told it's not just in case a slot opens up; they know the day before) cue absolutely nothing to do all day as you are not allowed off camp until the end of the working day!

The entire system is ridiculous, it's everything that is wrong with the military under one roof. All I can say is get your head down and do whatever you can to get out of there as quickly as possible, including working weekends - it's a couple of days off your sentence.

In '97 I had to do a BV206 driving course there and was about to drive home for the weekend when the d1ckhead on the gate told me I had to book out. Bearing in mind I was about 32 at the time and a Corporal I politely asked him to open the barrier and promptly drove home to my wife without looking over my shoulder.

Things have probably changed since I was there so I can't really offer any advice apart from do your best (you might get through quicker) and don't talk to the lezzers in the NAAFI.

It's the biggest s##thole going, enjoy!!

my sincere apologies TB, having just read RB's post it sounds a lot worse than Brawdy, which is just a huge amount of F All in the middle of nowhere. Sounds a lot like Brandford IMHO, which is another Army waste of space - I've had the 'good fortune' to visit Blandford a few times, and each time I thank the stars that I chose a blue shirt not a DPM one!

No not really, it was just as ridiculous this year when I was there.

got back from leconfield today, stayed in mulberry block, its good( better than the other ones anyway), you need to show your ID card to get a pint, as previously mentioned, bed checks and army bull****, but I was only stopping there (doing resettlement in Hull) so most of the bull**** did'nt apply
