Was thinking of trying to get another job - really fancy outreach team or AFCO, do we have many of these posts at Sgt/FS level these days?

Is it a worthwhile job?

Anyone got any experience they could share ?

Cheers ans Merry Xmas!

It's out there

It's out there

There are plenty of posts for FS/Sgt out in AFCO/MOT land, however, there may not be many being advertised at the moment due to a reorganisation within the Field Force, especially within the MOT teams.

The AFCO posts will either be OM or Area FS both of which are mainly administrative posts, although as an OM you decide how much recruiting you do.

Best thing to do would be give your local AFCO or MOT a call and spend a day with them.

Good luck, if you search the cranwell website you'll find a strength chart with everyone's tour ex's which might give you an idea when the job you want is coming up.

MOT - joke why are we paying wasting manpower on that S**T. Hope someone from cranners reads this because its......true!!! AFCO is not a bad job though mate.

So with JPA you have so much time that you do MOT's? do i just leave my car outside PSF? then you again you may loose it!

To be frank, as a Sgt/FS in TG17, the chances of you getting a AFCO/MOT post are pretty slim. The AFCO posts are mainly aimed as Cpl's as they cover what used to be known as Case Progress Clks (CPC's). There are TG17 SNCO's currently in AFCO's, however they were employed as part of the uplift last year and they mostly have previous recruiting experience as Cpl's. They tend to be SNCO recruiters, as opposed to OM's and so they report to a SNCO who will be employed in that position. The Area FS's all have previous recruiting experience, mainly as OM's, so again getting into that as a TG17 SNCO is hard.

Getting onto a MOT as a clerk is even harder as they are not seen as core employment for the trade, however it is not unheard of. As has been alluded to, contact the local AFCO and ask to speak to the outreach manager, or get his number, and try and spend a bit of time with them. The drafter may give you a firmer answer as to whether he/she will release you from trade to fill such a post as and when they come up.

With the current climate I would be extremely surprised if the MOT slots are not phased out and returned to their rightful owners the recruiter. Also, I would be prepared for Cpl slots to be cut especially the TG17 ones. I was of the understanding that the MOT posts were for one posting cycle only to help out the big push last year.

Oh yeh

Oh yeh

The likely hood of TG 17 getting onto MOT are pretty slim, the Trade has a lot of bods in the recruiting world so is very reluctant to release more to these roles. I know of 2 JNCOs who were strongly recommended by their Line Management but got bounced by the desk.

A lot of guys currently on MOT and AFCO Uplift posts are moving across into established slots which is closing jobs for new entrants but if you look forward 2 years then jobs should start to become available again.

There are other roles out their doing similar things away from recruiting, Presentation Team and Youth Outreach which may be more available but I don't know too much about them.

Obviously the guys in your office aren't doing it right or you don't know what they do. In the last 12 months I have met between 6000 and 10000 kids who wouldn't normally have had anything to do with the RAF, most of these are pre-eligible for joining up which means I am planting a seed for the future when recruiting picks up again, I am also giving them info on what they require for jobs they may be interested in so they can start to prepare as soon as they can. If you look at it from a different point of view why do we have so many recruiters when we have no jobs right now? If we want to save money should some of them not go back to trade? That's why we're spending money on MOT, because they are already starting to recruit for the next 5 years.

It has probably changed again since I left the field force, but we started off with CPC's and then moved on to everyone doing the case progressions (I did leave it in 2002 admittedly).

If you can get it though raflad, I can honestly say that my time in the AFCO's was the best fun I had with my clothes on.
