I've been having a brilliant row with my local MOT station. Cnuts.
They think Joe public knows fcuk all about M.O.T. rules and regs. They got it wrong with this Joe Public 'cos he's a ministry qualified transport manager and went to Salford Uni to take the exams.................................twice 'cos the dozy tawt failed first time and had to do it all agin.

Serviced my 4x4 last week,(no, it's not a V8 4.2ltr gas guzzler.........it's a 2ltr, 30mpg, normally 2 wheel drive). Put 4 new tyres and exhaust on it, and new disc pads all round. Thought I'd checked everything.
Took it for test...................it failed.
Rear tail light went out when brake lights come on. (Earthing fault).

No probs. Asked the tester when he could retest it. Mon morn. he says.
Took it back Mon morn. He say's........leave it with me. I'll try and get it done for T time.
I said...........I can't leave it. I need it.
He says........I cant do it then.
I said............When can you do it.
Tomorrow he says. Weve got nothing on.
Took it back day after.
Leave it with us. We''ll try and get it done by T time.

Whoah...............we've been here before.
He says, take it or leave it.
I says........"I want an appointment".
He says you cant have one.
I say I can.
He says Leave it with us, or we cant test it.

I asked him if he knew the ministry rules on appointment systems................?
He says.........I am a ministry tester.
I said.............No. You are a self employed ministry approved tester.

Oh he says. You know all about it do you?

I said..........Forget it. I'll ring the ministry.
He said.........Fcuk off and ring the ministry....................................................

I did.

10 mins later...............................

Erm..........................Mr Grumpyoldb?
It's about your MOT. If you would like to bring it in at 12-30, I'll do it while you wait.

The law states that you are entitled to be present during the MOT test, and that it will be carried out under an approved appointment system.
If an MOT station ever tells you to leave your vehicle with them, and call back later, insist on an appointment. It is your right.
Don't matter if it is for the test, or retest.

Result.

It's not often that I'm 100% right, but when I Know am, I am.

BTW. It passed.............................

a) I had this when my Rover failed for "O/S/R brake little or no effort".

Upon reading the poster on the wall, I noticed that if I had the problem fixed that day, he would just re-test that bit. I asked when he could do it and he said not for 4 days. He said that unless I left it for him to work on, he'd have to charge me again. As I needed the car and it still had a week left til the MOT ran out, I pointed out that this wasn't my fault. He said tough, I was removing the car from the testing station and would therefore have to go through a full re-test.

I jacked up my car there and then on his forecourt and exercised the sticky brake piston, after which I demanded he re-test just that bit (and he wasn't to tell me he couldn't fit me in as there was nobody else waiting). He wasn't too pleased, but he did it and it passed.

b) A friend of mine took his Dolomite Sprint for MOT and it failed on "excessive wear on both front wheel bearings. Despite explaining that older cars wheel bearings shouldn't be pre-loaded and he had set up his BRAND NEW bearings to have a little play as per the manual, the spotty little tester failed it. As he didn't have the receipt to prove that he'd just replaced the bearings, he jacked the car up, tightened the bearing nuts up, got it re-tested and loosened the bearing nuts all in front of the tester!!

Grumpyoldb,

Get the VOSA to pay him a stealth visit with a dodgy motor :PDT_Xtremez_28:

What is it with you and sh1t cars?

Says pot calling kettle after all I have had

2 rover 25s Why? ffs
2 austin Maxis one was a gift and the other was all I could afford both very old second handers
and yes you've guessed it a fcuking 1800 marina and a 1750 Ital

at least now I have seen the light and got something German.

I am happy with my mechanic - been going to the same chap all the time I have been driving (over 18yrs) and he is a diamond.
Never does any work you don't need doing, lets me pay him at the end of the month - and, what a bonus - my old banger (c.1995) passed its MOT this week, with flying colours, for the second year on the trot!! Not bad for a £500 motor!!
Plus, the mechanic that did it, said it was the best one he had seen all morning!! So I am well chuffed.
If anyone in the area wants the name of a good mechanic - let me know!!!

What is it with you and sh1t cars?

Cos there were f@cking loads of them at auction when I got it 2 years ago and it cost me peanuts. 28,000 miles and 2 MOT's later, it's still going strong.

I'm looking forward to having a pint with you!!

Is this the guy who's going to be working on your Vectra kat ?
You might want to get someone else to do the cam belt though eh ! :PDT_Xtremez_15: :PDT_Xtremez_31:

The best one is when you take them a Japanese imported car of a model that was never officially type approved or sold in the UK market.

Having to show them the regulations in their own manual regarding emmisions laws after they have wrongly failed it was priceless.
