Hi guys,
Need a bit of help. I recently got a new computer with Vista on it. I kept all my old peripherals, and these worked well for a few weeks. Then the mouse started freezing up, it wouldn't move for around 10 seconds at a time, the computer makes a sound like when I plug in a new USB peripheral, then works. This happens at completely random intervals. The keyboard etc still work fine through these periods. The new mouse is a logitech one, the old one was a Microsoft jobby, both are USB.

I've gotten a new mouse, reinstalled all the drivers and searched MS's site high and low for an answer with no results. Anyone else had a similar problem, or got any further ideas?

Help!

What type of mouse does the device manager say is plugged in?

Do you see any question marks on any peripherals in the device manager?

Are you putting the mouse in the same USB port?

What model is the mouse?

Vista being a resource muncher, I would suggest it doesn't like the old peripherals? Only a thought.

No ? marks in the device manager, the mouse has been plugged into all 6 USB2 ports, i'm upto 3 different types of mouse now as i've just nidked the one from my laptop, still locks up!

Think the comp needs to return to its builder, its not so bad on forums, but its costing me kills in DOD and COD4!

Mate, have you checked the drivers are VISTA compatible? I know it shouldn't matter being Microsoft and all that, but just have a check and see if any updated drivers are available.

Is it an optical mouse? If so - turn it over and move your finger over the sensor - does the light come on quickly or is there a bit of a lag? Could be a resolution problem.

Another thing, are you using an NVidia graphics card and have the Aero desktop pointers turned on?
