If a move is going to take longer than 24hrs, thus forcing a stay overnight somewhere (B&B etc), what else are you entitled to apart from disturbance and the initial journey up to survey the area? The move will be from a private residence to SFA.

I'm at home at the minute so I can't pop into PSF and ask those who should know.

Any help as always, is much appreciated.

Day and Night subsistance Allowance for the whole family.

Day subsistance will cover your meals and the night subsistance is for the hotel.

Didn't realise you could claim an initial 'survey' unless it is SSFA (not sure that's the right thing but the substitute bit of housing I mean!).

That's how it was explained to me as well. However, they said I was entitled to a single journey of MMA.

I've dug up a version of the JSP from 2009 so not sure if it is still the same with this particular aspect so......

We leave our home on the Monday once the removals are completed. Monday night will be spent with family approx 1/3 of the way up to ISL. Tuesday night will be a Premier Inn room, ready for a march in on Wednesday morning.

So with the above taken into consideration I'm not going through the DHRS scheme so I'll not have some note stating no accomodation available. Is the JSP still correct instating that I will be eligible for a PAR of £26 per 24hr period? So £52?

Pretty sure if you want the premier Inn room to be company funded you have to book through the Hotel Booking agency.

When I moved recently we claimed the current rate of DS which was £25pp.....

Day subsitence allowance yes (£25 I believe, each) and the JSP still states that you can claim night too, it is in the very first paragraph that is relevant to uk to uk moves (I nearly missed it myself).
PSF verified this too...... But, just to check the DHRS part I spoke to the travel cell and basically the JSP is supposed to be amended to stop this except in exceptianal circumstances.

The main budget holder, apparently, has said that they will only pay out for night subsitence allowance after the individual can't do the following
  • Use a welfare house at the new post.
  • Stay with friends or family.
  • Ask the removals to collect the beds last thing in the morning of the drop off.
Travel cell even said, why not sleep on the floor!!

I would check with your unit but to be fair the JSP says you CAN, and aren't they what we are all supposed to being working IAW???

Cheers, I'll have a bash at it when I get back. To be honest the PSF aren't exactly the most helpful unless backed into a corner so far.

The JSP says that subsistence can be claimed if "suitable family accommodation is not available for administrative reasons" (or words to that effect). The problem is that the word "suitable" leaves it open to interpretation and I've known some budget managers to say that a roof over your head is suitable, whether or not you have a bed under that roof. Most units are more amenable than that these days, fortunately.

Given the distances involved there is no way the OP's furniture can be packed in the morning and delivered to his new address the same day so there should be no reason to deny the claim - however, save yourself some heartache and get agreement from your new unit beforehand. Tell them what you plan to do, refer to the relevant paragraph of the JSP and ask if they're OK with that (at least, that worked for me for my most recent house move). I also strongly recommend you use DHRS for your night in the Premier Inn or you may find you cannot reclaim the full cost.

Sound advice :)
