Hi All

My h2b is getting posted to Wittering in July (we get married in June)

We are hoping to move to married quarters but I need to know if we will be entitled to any removals costs and what the allowance for disturbance is we currently live in lincoln and I have calculated the distance from our current home to Wittering to be roughly 60 miles.

Also will the military help to fund the costs of selling or renting out the property that we currently occupy?

We need to move to married quarters as we simply cannot afford to commute 120 miles a day and also my h2b works shifts which would mean at times he would need to leave home at 3.30am

Any advice on the type of allowances we can receive, the forms we need to fill in and potential payments we can receive would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I;m assuming you love together now? If so you will be entitled to disturbance allowance which is about £1000(ish)
Wrt getting assistance selling/renting, as long as your current property is a redisance at work adress which again I assume then you should be able to claim refund of letting expenses which is paid upto twice a year and is for the cost of setting up the rental agreement. If you wanted to sell then really you would need to buy at your new unit, refund of legal expenses is paid for both a sale and a purchase; however, you can get a cerificate if for example, house prices were substantially higher in your new area and you couldn't afford to buy or you were going overseas etc.
I think that would be the lot - somebody with more current knowledge may be able to confirm all the above - I'm just a civvy after all ha ha

If your h2b pay's the mortgage then you will get help with legal costs.

As regards getting disturbance allowance, i'm afraid I can't help you with that one, if you're married then it's pretty straight forward but for getting married I don't know, best thing to do is to get your fella to go to PSF and ask some adminers, they tend to help if you ask them.

They came to see us and had a lot of good gen about what you can and claim and your entitlements.

Hope this helps a wee bit.

But if he helps pay the mortgage then his first move was out of the block officially so he should be able to claim.

Pretty sure you cannot get DA for your first or last move! Sorry!

I thought that to be true but their initial move into their home would constitute as a first move, assuming they hadn't moved before; either way they would qualify for DA.

Having said that; I've just perused JSP 752 and I couldn't find any detail stating that DA will not be paid for the first or last move.

Yes, you will be entitled to DA and removals expenses. You marry in June and therefore are entitled to a SFQ when your husband is posted in July. If he chose to commute, he would get travelling money (HDT), but it would barely cover the cost of fuel, and it is capped at 50 miles.

Also will the military help to fund the costs of selling or renting out the property that we currently occupy?

You can claim the refund of legal expenses for letting out your home. This can be claimed every time a new (or revised) tenancy agreement is issued. Unless you are selling your property and buying another, then there will be no assistance with house selling costs.

Any advice on the type of allowances we can receive, the forms we need to fill in and potential payments we can receive would be greatly appreciated.

Out of interest - Why is your fiance not asking these questions?

I would hazard a guess Mutty, for the same reason you helped me process a recent LSAP application. Us wifey's are multiskilled and one of those skills tends to sorting our menfolk's admin. (not tarring you all with the same brush mind!):PDT_Xtremez_42:

There are many people who do commute to Wittering from Lincoln, I know i did it to Cottesmore for over 5 years and to be honest i really liked the fact that once out of those gates i was free. The Home to duty (or what ever it is called)came in handy (didn't pay the full cost) and there was a lot of opportunity to lift share.

You're in the mob though Sniffer and your OH was away. You knew all about LSAP etc and had done all the leg work yourself - all I did was facilitate a speedier outcome!

It is an option, and if the OP's fiance is on a favourable shift system that involves not using the A46/A1 at peak times, then travelling wouldnt be as much of a drag as your Mon-Fri commuter.
