It has been a few years, to say the least, since I left the mob and I am not up on current regs so I am hoping one of you sages can help.

My daughter is getting married in October and her partner has just been told that he is posted to Akrotiri at the end of October. There does not seem to be a problem adminwise as yet but he has been told that there may be a problem with MQ initially.

The two scenarios that I can see is:-
He goes over without her and their son, with them to follow. (In my time it was the 'FAMCALL'). In this case what does she do regarding accom over here while she is waiting. She lived in rented property here in Wales with him stationed elsewhere so the rental period ends at the end of October.

The other scemario is that she goes with him. Can they get hirings in the village or elsewhere and move into MQ when available?

Oddly enough, this was almost the same situation I was in when I got married to MRS PB, then I went over to Akrotiri in July, came back in September to get married. Moved her into my house and she got called forward in October.

Which prompt another question. Is the first and last moves on your own expense rule still in force?

Thanks for your help

PB

What's the problem? They are getting married on October and he is posted to Aki at the end of October? It sounds like they are moving after the wedding; if so they are entitled to a quarter.

Nowadays MQs are in short supply wherever you are I think, and from the sounds of it Pistonbroke's future son in law can't get one until after he is due to start but he wont be entitled to one in the UK until after he is posted to Cyprus so his wife will have nowhere to live. It may be an entitlement to have a MQ on the first day of your post but if there isn't one available current thinking is still "hard cheese".

This sounds like a special case as he's getting posted around the same time he is getting married and it may require a bit of digging to find someone within housing allocation with a bit of common sense and personal pride in looking after the Service personnel they are supposed to provide for. That'll be no mean feat considering the clowns I've dealt with since first moving into SFA about 5 years ago but the fact it is overseas may make it easier as they are closer to the personnel they are supposed to assist.

JSP464 states that he is entitled to private hiring should there be insufficient MQs atyour duty unit. Similarly, there may be available MQs at Episkopi.

Thanks guys,

The last thing I want is for him to be banging desks first day there but knowing ahead what he can or cannot have will help him decide on his approach. I had no problems dealing with housing there but I was out there last year and I know a lot of the older stock have been/are being knocked down, with new quarters being built so they are at a premium. Epi is a possibility, I know but I am trying to steer him away from that.

I will have a look at the JSP on Monday when I get to work and I will pass on your thoughts, and the JSP, to him.

Cheers

Shouldn't be a big problem

Shouldn't be a big problem

There were lots of quarters at Aki when I was there and Epi used Hirings so I'm sure there won't be a problems.

If there is there is always the services families centre as a stop gap if they are really desparate.

Hope they enjoy it out there, heard it's expensive these days but I'm sure a full kebab won't break the bank.
