Afternoon all,

Firstly I would like to Introduce myself.

My name is Nathan, I'm 17 and currently studying for my A levels which are ;

History,
Geography &
Business Studies ( changing this to A level Mathematics )

I acquired the following in GCSE's : Mathematics - B,
English Language - B,
Geography - C,
Science - Double Award - C,C.

I am currently in the A.T.C, and I am hoping to join the Air Force after my A levels.

Basically I'm just here to ask, if anyone on this forum has/is going for Nav / WSO.

Basically it's the career that I have chosen to go for.

Also I'm slightly worried about my eyesight. From my last eye check up 2 years ago, I was given the following results ;

Left Eye : 6/5
Right Eye : 6/7

Basically I appreciate the strict rules for the RAF Aircrew Medicals, but am I still eligible for joining.

I would also like to apologise if these type of questions get asked alot, just very enthusiastic.

Thanks again everyone.

Nathan

Nathan,

Have a scan at the recruitment forums. Best thing to do is go to your nearest AFCO and ask the question, in cases of medical issues they will often refer your details to our medical specialists to gain a definitive answer.

Good luck

Can any recruiters state the levels of recruitment in this branch with amount of F3 navs now floating around in the system?...We;ve got two flying with us now which must be a bit of a come-down from their previous life...

We're still recruiting for them, till OASC decides otherwise. As to figures? We're not privy to that privileged information.

The figures are meaningless anyway. If someone decides to go for WSO then they need to pass the aptitude test and perform well on the leadership and interview phases. I can understand that if there are fewer places avaialble then 'statistically' you may be less likely to get a place, but it will not affect how well you do on testing if there are 20 places or 200...you still have to make the grade.
What's the logic here??? Lots of places then I don't need to try so hard?...No...It doesn't matter how many or how few places, you should prepare to the best of your ability. Knowing the numbers is of no help whatsoever.

Quite a simplistic view...the less places available/required would mean raising the bar at OASC. I can remember when we were critical for AEOps about 12-15 years ago...the levels were dropped and the recruits walked through the door...and failed during professional training...

Sorry I can't see the point you're trying to make..... less places means the standard will be higher....AGREED. But from the candidate's perspective they are going to give 100% anyway.....or are you suggesting that a candidate doesn't have to give 100% if we are having difficulty recruiting??

A simplistic view is all that is required...quite simply the candidate must give 100% effort at OASC irrespective of whether there are 20 places or 200 places available.
