Hi all

I've booked flights for the annual hols, and it's going to be LA followed by Las Vegas this year.

We were there this time last year and had a marvellous time. I found towards the end of the holiday that the RAF ID has some kudos and was able to get 2 for 1 tickets to the Cirque du Soleil at the TI.

Questions are as follows:

1. Are there any Forces friendly hotels on the strip (especially in the area around Planet Hollywood/TI/Monte Carlo part of the strip) who will offer discounts for forces or 'residents' rates that I maybe able to tap into?

2. Any other shows/trips that offer the same?

3. What’s the shopping like at Nellis? Can we, as serving personnel not posted to Nellis get onto base and into the BX/PX?

We will be in Vegas from 24 Oct - 3 Nov 2010.

Many thanks in advance for any assistance that can be afforded.

Marriott hotels do forces discount. I am not sure of any Marriotts near or on the strip mind.

2. Any other shows/trips that offer the same?

Not when I was there!!!!!

3. What’s the shopping like at Nellis? Can we, as serving personnel not posted to Nellis get onto base and into the BX/PX?

Not unless you have a NATO Travel Order.....not anywhere near LV at the mo but am sure that someone could get your shopping list for you!!

We will be in Vegas from 24 Oct - 3 Nov 2010.

Many thanks in advance for any assistance that can be afforded.

I know a few peeps out there, good bunch who would be able to assist!

All cirque du soliel shows do a 50% discount on production of 1250 .

We stayed here whilst on Flag:

Nice suites and staff helpful. The really nice thing about this place is that it is 10 mins walk to the Ballagio and 30 seconds walk to a Gordon Biersch (sp?) micro brewery which is a sanity check for food in that crazy town...and the beer is nice too. The Hard Rock Casino and hotel was 5 mins walk and there was a bunch of normal bars on the way to it as well including an outstanding sushi establishment.

What I liked about it the most was that it was just far enough off the strip to get a good nights sleep! Activity of choice was to stop into one of the many drive through booze shops on the way home from work, pick up a crate of brewski's then dive straight into the red hot outdoor jacuzzi and get supping...plenty of other guests joined us and a bit of a pool party would form...then once poached to medium rare get down the strip and find some trouble...

Does the microbrewery do ale as well? Looked at the site and it seems quite continental, but not been there so could be wrong. I may be ending up there shortly and will miss proper ale.

ditto!

arrive this weds and leave on the 3rd .... Red Flag has a lot to answer for .... probably would never have visited if not been on a flag! now can't get enough of the place!

In order to get onto Nellis you will need a NATO Travel Order with Nellis AFB written on it. Virtually impossible to get on without now.

There are places that do discount, but its best just to flash the card anyhow. At the moment the Mandalay Bay is a good place for Mil discounts. Hotels like TI, Flamingo, Hooters and The Trop dont require discount anymore as the rooms are down at about $19 a night depending on the day.

To be honest you cannot beat Hotels.com or similar as some of the bargains on there these days will put discounts to shame.

All the Cirque shows do discount bar LOVE, but again, you may get them cheaper at the cheap ticket places.

If there is anything specific that you want to see then drop me a line and we can see what SSHdodgydealingsareus.com can sort

BigstevieJ, if you want to see the RAF at work then give me a shout.

As SSH said, the BX at Nellis is a non-starter unless you have a NATO Travel Order or work out here. To be honest, the BX isn't that great with the only good point being that its tax free which helps for big things like computers. We dont tend to find the prices that cheap to be honest.

As for the Hotels, if you have one in mind then give their front desk a call (some dont advertise their Tel no, but they are easy enough to find) and explain that you are Military looking for a room. We've saved a fortune doing it this way rather than online, and if they cant get much money off their room for you, then they will probably throw in a few tickets to a show instead. We've done this loads and have always got something but we've only ever done it for a night at a time though when we have family over to stay and not for a big chunk of time like a holiday for instance, but its worth a crack.

Enjoy your stay :PDT_Xtremez_14:

Thanks for all the replies guys. Looks like either the Planet Hollywood or Treasure Island (stayed there last time).

Flying to LA tomorrow for Pt1 of the holiday then onto Vegas. Please PM if anyone hears of any other discounts or wants to get a few goaters on tour beers :PDT_Xtremez_14:

My second time at Vegas, never thought I'd like it to be honest and was pretty much forced into it by the missus first time. Turns out I absolutely love the place. Why O Why does the UAV stuff not require TG5 :PDT_Xtremez_09:

Thanks guys

Thanks guys

a trip to the gunstore on tropicana ave is a must! make sure you take your passport and of course 1250 ...

then spend a few hours blatting away with weapons a plenty!

Or if u want cheap and cheerful... the Amerisuites by the Hard Rock does Mil discount. It has a bus that drops u and picks u up on the strip free of charge. We used it a few times.

Well that's us on the last day of the holiday. Flew to the west rim, no discount. Did the skywalk, 20% discount. Watched Terry Fator, 35% discount and totally awesome! Watched 'V' the untimate variety show, no discount offered, as they deal directly with Nellis, good show though (got tickets at Tix booth). When shopping at outlet stores almost all of them gave 10%+ discount...just ask

Stayed first at Planet Hollywood....got robbed. Some thieving toe-rag sneaked into out hotel room whilst we slept and took my iPhone 4, Mrs BNs Samsung Jet, two cameras, sunglasses, and $200 cash. PH security were crap, all they wanted to was make damn sure we knew that they weren't responsible:PDT_Xtremez_25:. They were actively discouraging us from reporting the incident to the police - they didn't get their way.

Now in the Manderin Oriental, booked on line. Talk about chalk and cheese - it is a fabulous place :PDT_Xtremez_30::PDT_Xtremez_30:

Sorry to hear about PH. Must admit, they are massive on the blame culture out here.

Glad you managed to get some discounts you were after though and hope you enjoyed Vegas!!

I love it, and it'll be a sh1t day when i get my posting back to the UK :S

As an aside to BillyBoy's post earlier - you now (officially) need to be on their AER (Their visitors list given to their guard force)...

However I recently was on det. out their and had Nellis AFB included on my NATO travel order (it's handy getting along with our travel clerk well) and managed to get on without question on production of the aforementioned NATO travel order. Officially I shouldn't have been able to.

This has only come into force (or should have) quite recently though.
