New Boss

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
For the first in 20 years the new armed forces head honcho is from the rum, bum and baccy boys.

"The head of the navy has been selected as the next chief of Britain's armed forces - the first in 20 years...........Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, 55, will take over the position from General Sir Nick Carter."

So new boss not like old boss. I hope he can speak his mind and not wait, like most do, until the day after he takes the uniform off to voice his views on topics of the day.

It is a political appointment so expect a politician type leadership.

Radakin has achieved something more than the others in my view. In deploying the B2OPVs on worldwide missions without base ports he has achieved several things previously thought incompatible - he has pandered to grandiose politicians by providing a worldwide Royal Naval presence (send a gunboat....), cheered the matelots by providing more opportunities for 'going foreign' and satisfied the treasury by doing it on the cheap - no base port infra required, minimal crews, no expensive embarked aviation etc. Of course, he's also brought a smile to the face of every tinpot dictator who now know the RN (&, by extension, the UK) has no great grey war canoes able to sort them out just some pedalos & pop guns.....

I noted that he had spent most of his career behind a desk rather than on the front line, so in terms of being a political appointee, he'll fit in fine.

Bit discriminatory that when you were positively pushing the modern ideas of a modern Airforce supporting 'Pride' ;-) :D
