Her Majesty The Queen has agreed the appointment of Air Marshal S G G Dalton CB BSc FRAeS FCMI RAF as the next Chief of the Air Staff in the rank of Air Chief Marshal with effect from 31 Jul 09 in succession to Air Chief Marshal Sir Glenn Torpy GCB CBE DSO ADC BSc(Eng) FRAeS FCGI RAF who is retiring from the service. Air Marshal Dalton will also be appointed as an Air Aide de Camp to The Queen with effect from the same date.

Quite interesting gen for anyone you know who is applying for either Occifer, Aircrew or Junior Rank.

Couple of quick facts, taken from the bio, to save you all reading it :)

1. Flown Jags and Tornado GR1A's
2. Commander British Forces JURAL , Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
3. OC RAF Coltishall
4. Director of Eurofighter Programme Assurance Group
5. Director of Air Operations (MOD)
6. Capability Manager for Information Superiority (CCI and ISTAR)
7. DCIC Personnel and Air Member for Personnel

To be fair, the incoming CAS must be a relatively good bloke to have leapfrogged the smatterings of ACM's that are still about.

Still, be nice to know if we've ever had a CAS that didn't have 2 wings on his chest :)

This could be a good appointment from the point of view of RAF personnel, being previously a people person, he must know the issues and now he's in a position to act. :PDT_Xtremez_27:

Ask TBJ, he'll be on first name terms with him no doubt.:PDT_Xtremez_31:

I've got to admit that, when I was at Coltishall, Air Marsal Dalton didn't immediately come across as a potential CAS.

Good luck to him when he takes over.

I agree entirely here; especially since lots of his recommedations have just about made their way to the desk of the current CAS....hopefully, he'll see them to fruition

He will have more constraints I fear. However I would agree that he is a "people's" person and very good at getting things done.

AMP visited my place a few months back and came across as an OK sort of guy. The problem with the job is the political masters and their budget constraints. I would bet Sir Glen would rather have more aircraft/people/money than he has now.
