Greetings all. As a new joiner to e-goat I thought it best to introduce myself. You never know, there may be someone out there who's path I may have crossed in my 22 years service. I joined in 1965 as the newly formed trade of Elec Mec, having incorporated the old Instrument trade, but lost LOX to the riggers (Joy of joys). Basic at good old Swinderby then on to RAF Newton for trade training. First operational tour on 23 Sqn (Lightnings) at RAF Leuchars followed by 13 month overseas at RAF Muharraq. Bronzed and blond, I had hair then, from the Gulf sunshine I returned to the UK to a cold, wet and miserable Brize Norton to work on VC10's and the Belslow.
In 1972 I applied for Aircrew selection and was accepted for Air Engineer training at RAF Topcliffe finally graduating from RAF Finningley in 1974. Conversion to the C130 at Thorney Island and subsequent posting to RAF Lyneham where I was to remain for the rest of my service career serving 2 tours on 30 Sqn then moving to 242 OCU. I parted company with the RAF in 1984 and made the transition to civil aviation where I was fortunate enough to secure a job with Cathay Pacific Airways as an F/E on the Boeing 747. I retired from aviation in 2000.
