Just a quick question. I'm in my last year in service due to NGR having done 24 years. Is it possible for PMA to send me OOA in that notice period? I'm relocating family and trying to get myself new employment. In my opinion I need every second of my last 13 months in to sort life out. So, Can I be sent away or is there a rule/SOP that stops this? Any info is welcome.

Mate of mine who's done 22 years (signed on til 47) has put his notice in and suprise suprise he's been DWR'd in the time he's got left. He's pushed his case up through the chain but has been told he's got to to the det. Means he's going to miss out on a job offer as well.

Great way to reward 22 years service.:PDT_Xtremez_25:

This happened to a guy (who had done less than 22) a few years back at waddo...he wrote to his MP at the time.....he never did the DWR...hint, hint.

Crack on.....:PDT_Xtremez_09:

The rule of thumb is that you cannot start an operational tour in your last year of service. You could, however, be sent at your 13 month point so you would come back with 9 months of service left. I'm not sure if that's written down anywhere, but the drafters do understand that you have enough on your plate when you're getting ready to leave.

The 13 month rule is in AP3392 Vol 2 Chap 15 (ish)! Suspect it's also in the ASPI's (Air Sec's Personnel instructions - drafters regs). They can't bring you forward to go OOA if it's not your turn just because you've put your notice in but if it's your turn it's your turn (so long as you go before your 13 month point). Just pull a 'sicky' if they pick you up to go somewhere hot & sandy - hundreds do!!

Do you really think that is top advice - if its your turn its your turn, pulling a sicky is disgusting.

I agree with you Gunner....absolutely. Twice in the last few years I've been brought forward due to people taking b****y sickies and it really gets up my goat! I find it incredible the amount of guys in the RAF who "appear" to be medically downgraded and therefore can't do OOA. Do they get their X factor removed? Do they h**l as like. Are they paid the same as the rest of us...yes!!! If they can't do their real job (ie go to war etc) then they shouldn't be in the mob! Before everyone gives me a hard time on this I'm NOT referring to guys who are genuinely sick or genuinely downgraded through illness or accident.....just those t***s who pull the sickies when it suits.

Gunner, my point was made with a huge tint of sarcasm! I have also been brought forward recently due to so called sickies and do the extra guards 'cause others are too lame! I don't advocate pulling a sicky, before we go too far Off Topic, just making tongue in cheek comment!!

Fair point then, I didnt read it that way, cheers for clearing it up.:PDT_Xtremez_31:

Given that these war dodging cnuts are swinging it with the pathetic get outs like a'badly twisted sock' etc why not send them anyway? They'll heal quicker than Lazarus when they realise nobody's listening and they've got some pre employment training to do which just might save their necks!:PDT_Xtremez_25:

I agree with the sentiment, but if someone with a badly twisted sock gets sent OOA and then dies, the papers would be all over it like acne on a Chav. You'd be talking megabucks compensation too.

In this age of litigation I suspect you're correct on this one TBJ.

It should depend on the facilities available in the theatre now some theatres have better Medical facilities than others.

Each case should be individual looked at, lets say they can't deploy to the Sand Box can they deploy to the FI or some other place?

I have every sympathy with genuine sickies, it's the ones who take on a funny turn because their DWR has hit the doormat and then some fcuking quack signs them off because he/she daredn't do otherwise. As an aside, these leg swingers should be brought to bear, the number of sickies per year they pull, fair makes my blood boil!

Seriously off topic here, but my fault, so I'll have my two penneth!! Hits 'em in the pocket and you'll soon find out who's genuinely sick and who's not. P2K, if nothing else, gave us the means of barring personnel from an increment if they didn't meet a certain criteria; therefore, if you're not fit to deploy you can't have you next increment when it's due and if you're at the top, then you start going back down until you are fit. Some might say it's a little contraversial but why are we paying guys top dollar when they can't fullfil their full obligations?

I know someone will point out that there are guys who are downgraded genuinely due to the service but there are ways and means round that surely?

There is, we all know the leg swingers, it just takes the quacks to sit these fcukers down (shouldn't be much difficulty in that) and tell them there's fcuk all wrong with them and get back to work etc. Seen it happen recently when someone was supposed to be completely 'Brr Ding La La Dinner Jacket' and was obviously trying for an F Med 8 discharge only to be assessed by the head doctor and told 'there's fcuk all wrong with you' get back to work...:PDT_Xtremez_19:

Thanks for the info. I'm not on DWR but My poster is umming and aahing over where to send me for my last year! I'm out of the service in May 08 and to be honest I dont trust the bloke. I have a nasty feeling that he'll try something on because I wont play ball and rescind my NGR.
