Our new trade name is going to be Logistics (Supply). I,m just off to clothing to demand a RLC cap badge.

PS Mov and MTDs are going to be re named as well.

Hasn't Supply been referred to as Logs for some time now?

Off TopicKeeps the sign painters in a job though.

Another nail in the coffin- but if we are Logistics (supplier) what on earth are they going to call the Officer types?
Answers on a post card to - OI/C I need a job Logistics (Supplier Policy and other gash jobs) RAF Air Command etc etc

I really hate to upset people but we are not a Logistics trade we are SUPPLIERS despite many Officer types trying to say different. I am proud to say I left the last RAF Supply & Movements Sqn (despite Danny Corby nicking the key and the photo opportunity!) But that is what we are, SUPPLIERS, we do our best to make our poor supply chain provide the support the engineers demand and deserve!:PDT_Xtremez_28:

We do this in the mud, sand snow and ice and were damned good at it, yes were called Norman the Storeman but who cares - we work in supply and are suppliers! ......................Thanks for that I feel a lot better now can I have the AP 830 back and I will go back to my little corner and be quiet for a few more months! :PDT_Xtremez_44:

As of 1 Apr 09 we will have the Logistics Branch, responsible for four trades:

Logistics (Supply)
Logistics (Movements)
Logistics (Chef)
Logistics (Steward)

Yes that's right, catering has now joined the hallowed halls of A4! I'm off to apply for a job as OC Cakes and Buns...

Thanks for the update, nice to see we got rid of the door slammers or are they going to be 'merged in to Supply and Movements' but can we now have the higher payband of the chefs and drivers?....pull pin and stand back! :PDT_Xtremez_28:

I can see Supply, Movs and MT merging into one uber-trade in the not tooo distant future, but I never say the chefs and stewards being part of the clique!

What will TSW be renamed!?

I probably forgot to add Logitics (MT) to the list. Having never worked with door slammers they tend to slip my mind - aren't they all civilians now anyway?

Logistics

Logistics

Good idea, it fits in with what we do in 2008, the civilian world have been using the term for years, about time we caught up. Where will TSW fit in to the new scheme? will it be a chance to cut them adrift at long last, especially as we will all be wearing blue uniform from now on, can't wait to get my new blue coveralls and logo'd up Hi Viz vest.

Gents

A Logistics trade/branch has been on the cards for years, and why not? Whats the difference between a chef ordering rations or a stacker ordering kit? Whats the difference between a cabby refuelling a jet or a stacker refuelling a chopper? What the difference in a stacker loading a wagon or a mover loading a Herc? Answers, training, nothing more. Lets face it TSW (or as I like to call it, with the advent of 85 ELW, TFW) have been x training the TG 5, 6 and 8 guys for years, why not x train in certain areas of Logs.

Robby, you are showing your age and infirmities, we were all Suppliers, we are now much more than that. Look at the IPT/Role Office jobs we do now. Its not just rack/shelf/bin anymore.

As to blue coveralls, whats wrong with that? Its what I got issued with when I joined up.

Many thanks for that Stax and maybe your right but to be fair I left the FHQ at BZN to move to an IPT! I agree with you that we are far more than Rack Shelf Bin, but 'they' don't want Suppliers (except officers) in the IPT's (I am literally one of the last of the few at Wyton! Front line first and all that!) They want the suppliers at the MOB's who are constantly running with gapped posts.

As an aside we are losing out on a lot of logistic jobs because a) We are very expensive b) we don't actually want to do a lot of the jobs in Supply c) Our engineering managers would rather cut Suppliers and get contractors in than cut engineers!
I fear if we were not currently fighting two 'wars' we would be subject to some serious manpower cuts - If we ever finish fighting these wars I am confident we will get hit big style

As Logistics means many things to many people I don't see how it is going to help attract and recruit 17 year old civilians! We are currently failing to meet the targets for ac recruitment but fully meet the officer quota and they are "SUPPLY OFFICERS" - I just don't see how the name change helps? We are a wide and broad trade doing many things but 'Logistics' is a name that means something different to everyone. Supplier was a very descriptive title - a bit like Mover (It does what it says on the tin!)

Robby - you are way behind the times and haven't been privvy to all the work that has taken place up to this point. We needed the name change - there were old dinosaurs that didn't want to leave the Equipment Branch when it became Supply.

Put Supply, Movs, MT & Catering together - you get Logistics. They should be treated together because they are deployed together - as enablers. Get over it - Logistic Branch is a much better, more descriptive name.

A Dinosaurs response

A Dinosaurs response

I don't want to get into a bun fight but the good dictionary says

Logistics 1. The organisation of moving, lodging, and supplying troops and equipment. 2. The detailed organisation and implementation of a plan or operation.

I except we do the third part of part 1. but the rest is not really a Logistics (Supplier) role. I believe we are Supply Chain Managers but that is also a phrase you can interpret in a number of ways.

Thanks - I'll go back to my gate guard now! :PDT_Xtremez_40:

As a trade you are supply chain managers, but your functions fit into the wider realm of Logistics, hence why you will be titled Logistics (Supply). Don't worry, no-one will expect you to start cooking buns, slamming doors or losing baggage!
