Reports have come in that Alex Ferguson will retire at the end of the season

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22447018

But as a Liverpool fan, I am man enough to say that Fergie should be congratulated for knocking Liverpool "off their perch" - it only took him 25 years.

Who will replace him though? The smart money seems to be on Maureen who is said to be leaving Real Madrid at the end of the season, but will Man Utd choose a man with a track record of moving on every few years, after nearly 30 years of stability? David Moyes is another name that has cropped up but does he have the ability to direct one of the world's biggest sporting franchises? There's also Jurgen Klopp of Borussia Dortmund but will he want to leave a potentially huge Champions League outfit?

I'd like to see the size of the gold retirement watch!

I'm not a footie fan by any means, but the mere fact that he has kept his job for so long is commendable.

Not only a few more minutes when needed, but the warranty states there is a no penalty clause if damage or impact occurs at home.

I reckon he timed it so that they can nip in and grab Mourinho before he signs for Chelsea

Problem with potentially really good foreign managers (apart from the language and cultural issues), no longevity - at some point they all wanna go home or move on.

Moyes was offered under-coachship a couple of seasons back but declined, but he is still johnny on the spot for me.

I don't give a flying fart who takes over from the old soak.
Footballers……Bunch of overpaid prima donna poofs who cry at the slightest touch.

Mr SCJ

It won't me Jose. David Moyes is taking over and expected to sign in the next couple of days.

Can't see it being Mourinho either, he's not their sort of manager - far too flighty and likely to funk off at the slightest bottom lip wobble. Moyes is the most likely candidate, a manager in the same mould as Ferguson.
Football is never going to see his like again much as though it pains me to say it.

I wouldn't want to take over from Fergie. You would forever be in his shadow. I would want to take over from the man who takes over from the man who takes over from Fergie.

as others have stated, whoever follows is doomed. The 2nd manager after ferguson is the one who will do well....

If the rumours are true the managerial roundabout is taking another spin, allegedly.

Taggert from Man U to retirement
Moyes from Everton to Man U
Martinez from Wigan to Everton

So it follows that the most obvious big footballing question following Taggerts retirement is (Drum roll) Who next for Wigan?

Paul Jewell, Mark Hughes, Dean Saunders or even someone with a liking for pies.

Well its confirmed, Moyes to try and follow in the footsteps of the biggest shoes in football in recent memory. Good manager, great work with a frugal budget in that place across Stanley Park but does he have what it takes to take the helm at Man U? Time will tell.
