Good evening and welcome to the goat.

You may have noticed that there is a recession going on in the country at the moment and, as such, some trades don't actually need anybody at the moment. Not hearing does not mean you have failed, just that you are applying for a job that needs no applicants.

I know the appeal of a string vest and unlimited volleyball whilst playing hoses must be alluring but have you considered actually visiting an AFCO and seeing what is on offer at the moment?

Keep the faith, I walked into that same Bradford careers office and joined 31 years ago today. From going in to make enquiries and actually been accepted was best part of a year. You could go back into careers office and say you were just passing and you thought you would pop in and see how you did. Any recruiter should give you feedback good or bad. Best of luck

You joined up exactly 2 weeks after me you sprog:PDT_Xtremez_14:

But, you're correct, I applied in March 1979 and didn't actually join up till 20 November, so 8 months waiting for me.

Also good advice to the would-be sprog. Always follow up any applications.

yeh i know there is a recession, which is why when i made 1st contact 8/9 month ago they said theyd inform me as and when posts become available. so that brings me to now, applying because they send me an email and text saying "click the link to apply for your chosen trade" otherwise, i wouldnt be here.... :PDT_Xtremez_21:

Welcome to the Goat.

If you really want to join us then can I suggest you take a firm grip of your own destiny? Put something resembling smart clothing on, spruce yourself up and get down to the AFCO for a face to face chat with a flesh and blood (heart optional) recruiter where you can tell him/her your history to date and nail exactly where your application is at this time...They can tell you exactly what trades we are recruiting and with their help you can make some informed decisions...

Now anymore recruiting stuff and this intro thread goes into the recruiting forum!

Unfortunatly they isnt any basic courses planned till 2012 for firefighter so be patient took me over 2 years to get in.
And yes i played volleyball on thursday and loved it :PDT_Xtremez_14:
