There were indications quite some time ago (probably 10 years) that the RAuxAF was going to introduce the training/probationary rank of Officer Cadet, as a pre-ROIT prep for baby Plt Offs.

Did it ever happen?

ps that reminds me: there was a suggestion (also back about 10yrs ago) that Plt Off, and 2Lt/SubLt, were to be binned as ranks. Has that been shelved?
 
Wilf old boy! I know off another central forum, hope all is well.

Indeed the OCdt system is in place for the Auggies, they wear the normal Cranwell style white disc and flashes on their uniform. They change the size of their flashes depending on what part of their course they get to.
 
Mag2grid, you have me at a disadvantge (I won't try to guess at your identity on that other forum....hmm, or will I? !-)

Anyway, thank-you for the confirmation as to the existence of OCdts RAuxAF.

Back at the '97 RAuxAF/RAFVR amalgamation point there were strong rumours that OCdt should have been starting to appear, but even as late as 2004/5 (when I'd bowed-out of auggiedom) I still hadn't spotted one.

If you're someone who frequents that other forum, you'll understand why I'm interested in such things.....:D

When you say "they change the size of their flashes depending on what part of the course they get to", I take it you don't mean this literally?

I understood all Air Force OCdts wore the same sizes of white rank slides and lapel gorgets (with the possible exception of RAFVR(DTUS)...and the curious hybrids that are OCdt RAFVR(T)...!), with the only differences being the presence/absence of centreline rank-braids / IOT flight-colours on top of the white...? Happy to be recalibrated on this, go ahead:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Apologies for the delay, its not on is it.

The flight colour system was done away with when they had the review of IOT,its now sqn colours and they are only worn on the Gorgets.

The flash size on the rank tab starts off at about 3/4 inch cloth of white cotton for term 1 cadets, progressing into term 2 earns them a around a around a 2inch white square on the rank slide (ala the VR(T) OCdt slides) and finally term 3 is the same as term 2 but with a Plt Off braid across the middle of it.
