Who instigates the offer of promotion that should have appeared in my JPA workflow?

I have emailed the drafter, who told me to speak to HR.

I have spoke to HR, who told me it was a manning issue.

I have emailed the drafter, to tell them what HR said.

I got an email back from drafter to say this is a promotions issue and HR should be chasing it up with promotions.

Can anyone give me any idea of who should be dealing with this as I'm fed up with being the scribblies ping pong ball.

My offer of promotion I got in Feb this year was sent signal form. My Wobbly Orange came round the house to get me to sign it as I was on nights guard.....nice bloke
My offer to LOS 30 I had to chsae drafter for who chased relevant dept who sent forms to PSF, I had medical, papers signed now just waiting for the magic number to appear on JPA.

Who initially told you? With mine, I found out through the back door. The email had arrived on station 3 weeks before I was officially told. I'm led to believe this was down to my management rather than the station.
I believe that the first point of contact on station is the chief clerk who then passes on the good news to your boss, who then tells you.
I had details of my TMT course on JPA before my boss told me so I rang the drafter to ask where I came on the board. Funny old thing, I had been picked up for promotion. They said they would check with the chief clerk to see whether they had recieved the email/signal from ACOS. I had to reply, no need, it is actually here, I just havent been officially told yet!

Go and see the Chief Clerk and explain it all.

Good luck with it and congratulations!:PDT_Xtremez_30:

1. Offers of promotion come via signal or e-mail to the Chf Clk, who will then either pass it to the relevent section admin, or your Flt Cdr.

2. Flt Cdr/Boss will ask you if you intend to accept.

3. If accept, Chf Clk/Admin send signal/e-mail back to drafter.

4. Drafter will then issue AO on JPA - usually within 48hrs of receiving the acceptance.

In the early days of JPA, AO on promotion were being issued before acceptance, which proved a bit messy when someone turned it down. They've now adopted a more old-style way, which works pretty well as long as the drafter signals/e-mails the right unit Chf Clk!

Thanks for your help guys. But what I need to know is, who, or what dept, raises the signal, as that does not seem to have happened.

I've just hoiked my signal out of a drawer and it was raised and signed by the FS in charge of my drafter so I'm guessing yours should come from your trade desk as well.

So trade desk SNCO, would that be the same as my career manager/drafter? The same chap who told me to contact HR?

I dont mean to be pedantic, so I apologise if I am coming across that way. Its just that having contacted the drafter I was told to chase it with HR. But from what you guys are saying, HR will only find out about my promotion once the signal has been raised by trade desk SNCO.

Oooh I'm bloody confused! :PDT_Xtremez_31:

The CM will be able to tell you because they initiated the offer. There are a number of reasons you are being directed to HR/Chf Clk amongst which may be:

a. It may be a posting to somewhere you don't want.
b. You may be one of many and the CM does not have instant recall.
c. You may be one of many and the CM cannot be ar*ed to look up the
the list to find out the details.

However I would suggest that protocol is the likely answer. Officially you should not see nor hear about promotion until your Flt Cdr has signed to say they consider you suitable. However a CM may (or not, dependent on personality) tell you if you have been selected and or released - remember being selected for promotion is no guarantee that one will be released from the list and promoted. Nonetheless if an offer has been received on Unit then it should have been entered on a register and forwarded to your Flt Cdr. Normal turnaround time is 28 days.

My top tip to anyone is to always pose these questions in writing making sure to include read receipts on all correspondence. Good luck anyway.

I'm on timed promotion so I know I have promotion, as I have had the required recomendations in my 6000/SJAR and I know its due 12 Jan 09 and as a trade we dont usually get posted on promotion. So they should have no problem informing me of it.

Point c. in your list KingGuin is starting to feel like the most likely.

With it being a timed promotion, it is highly possible in this day & age that the Promotions Cell at ACOS needed reminding of it.

Having corresponded with Sniffer via PM, it appears that the ACOS "Prod" has recently been made by the relevent HR JNCO, and they are now awaiting the paperwork to be raised.

Hmmmmm, isn't that via the assessments that your boss signs off? Thats how you are considered suitable. Thats part of the procedure used at the board.
Seems an odd comment to me. Care to elaborate KingGuin?

I think he is right, there is (or certainly used to be) a sig required by your Flt Commander saying that you are suitable for the promotion. This might be to catch out the loop hole of any impending formal warnings etc

Ahhh, that explains it then. Just seemed odd, thats all.:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Absolutely correct. True story:

Mechanical SAC on my Sqn given Exceptional on his report on 1 Mar 08.

Apr 08 - Convicted of Drink Driving. Formally warned.

Aug 08 - Off Formal Warning.

Nov 08 - Offered promotion via e-mail/signal. One of the checks that is done by the clerks is to ascertain whether there has been anything that may affect his suitabilty for promotion (Flt Cdr signature).

Nov 08 - Promotion offer withdrawn due to Formal Warning since his last appraisal.

Thats why there is a HR Check and Flt Cdr approval before promotion is offered to individual, and not just via workflow on JPA.

he's right, a lad at our place came off the board last year but the boss put the kibosh on it:PDT_Xtremez_42:

he was a throbber though

The Goat vote of confidence - I have arrived ! Cheers:PDT_Xtremez_28:
Cheers Mutty, saved me a job. Merry Xmas ya'all.

Gotta love it. 12 Jan 09 came and went and I'm still wearing my SAC rank slides. However on the up side my pay has been actioned.

So as of the 12th I'm being paid level 2 Cpl which worked out at a 9.2% increase. :PDT_Xtremez_28:

So its not all bad.

Can someone explain how that is still possible? Is it trade specific or something else?
