With the new pension scheme the IP point is now after 18 years or age 40 (Correct me if I'm wrong, but thats the gist right?), so has anybody on the new scheme been promoted offered an extension to 18yrs as opposed to the usual 22? Or will they be offered the standard 22 as now?

It can't be far off somebody on the new scheme (be they a DE to it or a swapper) gets thier tapes....

Just interested.

Neither

Neither

The engagement needs to be changed from 22 to 24 to be pension earning for all. The 18 year contract would take out all those who join under the age of 22, 22 years means that all those joining under 18 do not get an immediate pension because they won't be 40 when they retire.

The only way to keep this as an immediate pension engagement is to make it 24 for all. If they don't, and the Army already have, then they could leave themselves open to age discrimination claims.

I'm sure some bright spark at ACOS Manning has already thought of this and is just polishing off the new rules.

Won't it just be an engagement to age 40 or 18 years service, whichever is later, to make sure everyone is properly captured? That's how it works on the other side, anyway.

From the booklet...

Quote...EARLY DEPARTURE PAYMENTS SCHEME
If you leave the Armed Forces before age 55, but

having reached at least age 40
AND having served at
least 18 years (the

EDP 18/40 Point), you will get a
tax-free lump sum and an income paid until age 65. Unquote.

The leaving age is not necessarily 40 therefore an extension to 18 years at this moment in time is N/A.

Hope this clears it up.:PDT_Xtremez_19:

Thats what I thought, but I hadn't heard of anybody getting this offer, still only the old fashioned 22.

Not really, but the old to age 37 was chopped because the RAF couldn't justify chopping at a certain age when others of the same rank could be serving with nearly 18 years more service.

I think if they are going to bring in a new policy, then the RAF will need to assess it's impacts on diversity and justify it if it does, its the law, old rules can let live for now, this is probably why the Army have gone straight to 24 year engagements to avoid any allegations of age discrimination.

Same here now you mention it. Permanent commissions are all 40/18 regardless of which pension scheme the individual is on. I suppose leaving it at a 22 year engagement for airmen means only that someone who joins after their 22nd birthday can PVR after 18 years and still collect their early departure payment.

Busby, when did the Army change to 24 year engagements? Does it apply only to new joiners or has it been/is it being offered to everybody? I've got a few mates who would be interested in taking advantage of a couple of extra years, is all.

In my last job both the non infantry guys were on the new VEng, details below:

ENGAGEMENT

2. You will be enlisted under a Versatile Engagement (VEng) contract. The VEng is a soldier engagement that offers the possibility of a Short (12 years), Full (24 years) or Long Career (beyond 24 years) with individuals progressing to Full or Long Careers if the Army deems them suitable for extension and there is a manning requirement.

This was copied of an open source document by the way

It might be Corp specific but it's been around for a while now.
