I am using office 2000 and word at the mo but the spelling and grammer checker seems to have gone caput on the document I am currently working on...

Can anybody help with whats going wrong? I've tried re-installing it already...

AS a SNCO I would expect you to be able to spell without the aid of a spelchecker
 
If Word 2000 is like Word 2003, try thhe following:-

Tools > Options > Spelling & Grammar

Check the Custom Dictionary, just in case.
