I'm off to Coningsby next month as a FS paid at Level 1. Scrutinising the latest RAF Pay website it would seem that this rank is paid approximately £1000 less than a Sgt Level 7 whichi is what I'll be for the next 32 days. I'm guessing I won't lose money (that would be taking the ****) but how does it work? Greatly appreciated if someone could let me know.

Why do you think you are going in at Level 1? As a Sgt Level 7 you should go in at the appropriate level at FS with a minimum pay rise of 2%. If you are low pay band I make that FS level 4. If you are in High Pay Band the I make that FS level 2.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately the admin staff here could only shrug their collective shoulders when I posed the same question to them. I didn't think it would be a case of losing money but I couldn't find anything on-line reference the change in pay. Many thanks again!

You will go in at levels 2 or 4 but you will mark time there until your seniority catches up :PDT_Xtremez_28:

Are you sure? didn't happen when I got my third up and jumped straight in higher up the payscale.

Mark time was only for transition onto Pay 2k, or when your new pay level is higher than the highest level in the new pay scale, ie higher to lower.

I refer to my previous post. Minimum 2% rounded up.

Mark Time Rates of Pay do exist; however, this example is actually a Stand Still Rate of Pay...same difference...see attached extract from JSP 754...

Nope, also for the good boys and girls that get promoted or get their commission :PDT_Xtremez_17:

FFS, Mark time and stand still rates do not apply in this case, this is a straightforward promotion but just where his current rank and level is higher than the lower level for his new rank. therefore he will get a minimum of 2% rounded up to the next level. Once his promotion is put on the system by his career manager the magic of JPA will work all this out. He will then increment to the next level on the anniversary of his promotion date (IBD) until he tops out for his rank ie level 9 etc.

Agreed, it's a 2% rise upon promotion, with the exception of Cpl-Sgt which is 5%.
Anyway, congratulations on the promotion.:PDT_Xtremez_30: Is it a field promotion or permanent?

Correct, apart from the 5% - this comes in with effect from 1 Apr next year. It's also on the cards for those promoted to Sgt to get a grant to buy themselves a Mess Kit.:PDT_Xtremez_30:

We were told about the 5% by that AMP briefing lot.
Off TopicI'd heard about the grant for old mans suitage, any more gen on that?

Is that for new promotees? Or do the rest of us finally get something for nothing ?

it will be for the new promotees. It is assumed that we gentlemen and ladies who have been in the old Folks Home for a little while will have purchased our own by now. It hasn't been decided if it will be receipt based or not yet, but the aspiration is to issue Mess Kit on promotion in the next couple of years.

Thank you Mr M, it's a full on promotion (only took 25 years!). Thanks to all who posted, good to know that their is such a huge level of knowledge out there. Anybody good with broken Maxda Eunos's?!:PDT_Xtremez_15:

Has anybody seen this written down anywhere ?

Sorry but that really grips my sh1t! Come April next year that attitude will have to go and maybe a mature and professional response such as 'We do not know at the moment but if you leave us with your name and a contact number we will get back to you as soon as possible'

Or am I living in dream land?
