Quick question. I am due to go to MPA on OOA at the end of the year. However have just found out my wife is expecting around the time I head out there. Do I still get my paternity leave or get the opportunity to at least be there for the birth?

Let the drafter know ASAP, they can often help but they can't do jack if they don't know.

You will also need her 'date of confinement' from your doctor. Usually they can delay your OOA until a few weeks after she is due to drop.

wind up?

wind up?

You could also find yourself going earlier so they can get you back for the birth. It's upto you which would be most benefit?

And from the other side of the fence so to speak...make sure the hospital knows about your det. They can schedule an inducement for "squaddies" being deployed. I think it was called a social inducement, both my kids were born before I became an auggie so I did not pay much attention.

So make sure both sides know about each other as both will work to make sure you are in the right place at the right time.

Thanks for the advice guys. Will have a word with my management chain once we get the full date info from the doc/midwife.

You need to get the certificate from docs about date of confinement, then pop up to Hand Brake house and get them to complete Annex G to Lflt 1511 of AP 3392 Vol 2. This is the application for deferment of overseas assignment on grounds wifes pregnancy. They will then forward this to manning and then wait out.
