im wanting am out of area soon. since the desk was closed to us lowly sac's, im just wondering how to push for afgan as my snec isnt the most pro active with regards looking after our interests and is quite self absorbed. any replies would be appreciated
 
Mate get yourself up to see the chief clerk he can ring through on your behalf and hopefully sort out what you want.
 
Gen App. State you "wish to be considered, out of turn, as a volunteer for Op xxxx/duty in xxxxxxxx". Request is made in writing, you have a copy, your Flt and Sqn Cdrs are aware of the request and ACOS have to acknoweldge it. Easy!
 
Mate, KG is spot on and he should know. Having a record of what you have applied for is so important. Also mate; if your SNEC is ever going to develop they need your feedback pos or neg.

I have always appreciated being told I'm a tw@t or I'm doing ok. It’s a way of learning and if they are any good they will take the 'sort yourself out' chat. I have always enjoyed and accepted the feedback and hopefully I'm better for it today.

Our desk is briefing that you cannot volunteer for afghan specifically as everybody wants to go to the Stan for the Op Allowance. Thus they treat them purely as OOA volunteers and you could end up anywhere. It may of course be different at your desk, but be carefull...service needs cover a multitude of sins shall we say..
 
Downsized is spot on. I spoke to my chf clk a couple of months ago and they had loads of stackers wanting to go to the sand pit and none really wanting to go to MPA. They should pay the op bonus for both then they'd probably have more volaneers for both...... But that's another thread.
 
If you go to the manning web site on the Intranet, there is a list of required volunteers by rank and trade, or by rank and any trade. Will normaly require an email which is linked to the post and your line mangers approval.
Get your line manager to cc you in any email he/she sends, so you know your not beeing screwed by them saying anything adverse to prevent you going.
