got told on friday that I am on the sqn rotation for KAF August 2010 for 3 months, not wanting to stiff anyone but I was under the impression that you cant be sent OOA in your last 12 months, true or not? if not then I'll rearrange my emigration plans as am hopeing to activate my visa next october, any body shed some light on this for me? thanks

Not sure how it works for a DWR but i've seen plenty of people being sent out of area on a Squadron rotation on 90SU with less then 12 months on unit. Seen it where they get back to UK and are posted within 8 weeks

generally, at the end of the day (as long as you are not a leg iron sick-note)you can be sent OOA anytime, sorry mate!

I went to KAF in my last 12 months in the RAF. But I didn't make any attempt to get out of going so I don't know what the rules are. Have you tried putting your position with emigration to your management to see if they are sympathetic?

BTW, this was a Sqn det, not a DWR.

Which is not a DWR, the sqns are a FU, numb nuts.

Put it this way, I knew one lad who was out the day he landed back from the Falklands - not for term leave resettlement etc, OUT! Mind you that was avout 6-7 years ago!

figured I will be going, work know about my resettlement/emigration plans, but we have a lack of substantive Cpls on the sqn so will have a word with the jefe, see what arrangement we can come to

Upto the Unit to Manage

Upto the Unit to Manage

Formed units manage their own manning, they should take into account your leaving plans but service need as ever is the deciding factor.

If I were you I'd probably volunteer to go earlier and get it out of the way, and don't forget once you've done 16 years resettlement is an entitlement and carries a little bit more weight.

I did MPA and left back in 2000 - worked out great. 3 years in cyprus, then took all my leave..............in cyprus, MPA for 4 months - money saved, fitness improved............straight back to cyprus for a weeks hol and then off to Australia and New Zealand for just under 2 years backpacking.

My detachment to MPA was moved back at my request to fit in with leaving so I believe they can be accomodating

I read lst week that if a Det adversly impacts your resettlement, then you can ask for our exit date to be deferred to allow you to get your courses etc in. But bottom line, they can still send you.
