OOA policy for newly promoted Chief Techs

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
Been hearing rumours that newly promoted Chief Techs get pinged for an OOA within the first 18 months of there promotion, regardless of when they last got a credit. I'd like to think this is just rumour, but then again nothing surprises me these days!

Any truth in it? Feel free to PM me if you're in the know and would rather not post publicly, I'm asking as it may affect my decision to take promotion or not, after getting a credit just before Christmas the idea of going away again within 18 months does not appeal. Thanks.

Mech Chf Tech's - from my experience and another thread on here a few weeks back I'd say yes - although from my experience it tends to be CTs who get posted, especially to a DE&S post. But why would you give up promotion for 4 months Down South?

You think that's bad try some other ground trades who are,OOA a lot quicker than 18 months.

But why would you give up promotion for 4 months Down South?

It's a personal thing, and yes I know some other trades have a higher turn round, but I'm not in their trade, I'm in mine so really only comparisons should be made for mine (ATM).

I did an OOA late last year and obviously, as I said, don't really want to do another. This may sound odd to some but I'm really not that fussed about promotion. Of course it's nice but the money's not that much better, and I was all set for coming out. I'm just trying to look at all the facts and make a decision from there really.

Before I get slated I've done more than my share of time away, it's not the going away that's the issue, more the timing of when it may happen.

If the timing is wrong and you have to go, see if you can volunteer early and get it over with. I don't know what the turnaraounds are for ATM CTs but I cannot imagine it's anything less than 5 yrs. They did something similar in my trade when promoted to JT. Within 9 months of finishing your FT course you were OOA, unless you were in a green unit. Half of my course was down the falklands at the same time I was.
