Is there anywhere on the intranet you can see what OOA dets are available?

I looked in the ground trades positions register but that only lists overseas postings rather than 4/6 month dets.

The OOA list on the manning page lists the same 6 dets and never seems to be updated. I know there are more than these as a friend has just been pinged for MPA and that wasn't advertised.

Any idea who to contact at Manning? Or does it all have to go through the 'Unit Careers Advisor'?

Have you volunteered recently and been successful?

I would like to add to this with 'Is there a procedure for volunteering?'

I am coming up to an OOA (2 1/2 years) and would like to go to Afghan rather than a 3rd tour of the penguin palace!!

I've emailed our drafter to volunteer some of my lads recently.....

Ring the drafter.

You'll no doubt get the reply...

'Oh I was just about to contact you as your at the top of my list!'

Even if you wasn't.......

Keep checking the overseas volunteers list. For instance there is a tg4 OOA on there at the moment, although it has closed.

The online list is so rarely updated thorough. There must be lots more opportunities than are ever listed on there?

I know those below Sgt cannot telephone the drafter directly but are we allowed to email? Or does everything have to via your UCA?

Email your CM via your LM and volunteer, easy as that.

yes, but where is the full list? I look on the manning website most days and for many many months any trade has been a choice of 4 and for my trade not much more!

The one's listed also tend ti be the ones they struggle to fill; where are gucci ones listed or at least ones more interesting than a trip to penguin paradise?

On my last det i met a few people doing some interesting stuff, biometrics, forensics etc and these were any trade posts.

This.

The CM are pretty busy bods, and at least if the request has a trail from you to them through your LM, then it saves them having to get back to the LM to check if they can be released.
