Had my interview for FOA (been asked so many times, its FOA not FOA(ATC) :PDT_Xtremez_28: )

Just wondering if anyone here knows when i should expect to hear if i have the job or not?

And also, whats the trade looking like, are FOA's in need at the moment?

Any info would be good,

Martin :PDT_Xtremez_40:

I would say yes FOA's are in need, if my tower is anything to go by! Last I heard we were undermanned, so yeah.

I presume you know the difference between FOA and FOA(ATC)?

Hi Martin,

FOA's in my opinion are one of the most versatile trades in the airforce. We tend to be the jack of all trades (master of none???). Your first tour will be to a station operations (where mission planning and coordination of flights take place) or to an air traffic control tower doing the same thing as the FOA(ATC)'s. Second tours can be anything from Squadron Operations to a multitude of different, wierd jobs that we have scattered around the airforce.

As far as trade training goes, expect to learn an awful lot about air navigation, meteorology and communications. FOA and FOA(ATC) (soon to be renamed ATCA's) attend an identical course. The course lasts 9 weeks and is intense, with morning inspections and theory, followed by three assessed simulator slots in disciplines such as Local Assistant, Switchboard, Flight Planning and Operations.

If you'd like to know more please PM me and I'll be happy to tell you more.

I know a APOD cdr chap (now an RAF Regiment Air Cdre) who valued the FOAs at a certain dust trap in the Middle East way above the OSB (Flt Ops) officers ("Can someone please send those three clowns home and replace them with a cpl and SAC FOA?"). Not only could the FOA make a stirling cup of tea whilst managing the flypro, liaising with gnd ops, talking to the tower, sorting crypto, handling irate Americans and filtering the NOTAMS/SPINS/ACO whilst wiping the OpsO's behind, they were also quite keen to grab a gun and go looking for a fight.

Oh, and they had useful driving licenses - especially those who had been 'caravan' controllers.

TG9 should be proud of what it is. My only advice is to enjoy and rise above any of the ubiquitous Opsie/ATC bickering.
