Good morning fellow e-goaters.

Had a newly posted snco tell me this morning in the office, that dark blue shirts ('working dress' 2C) should only be worn under overalls - which I know is obviously absolute horse manure. I've come across J/T's wearing dark blue 2C shirts underneath, but nowadays pretty much everyone wears brown/green t-shirts (whether suitable for aircraft work or not!) or sqn t-shirts don't they?

Anyway, I'm really not that bothered about fashion in the RAF, but I was wondering if there is an order that actually states what to wear with overalls since he tried to make me look like a dick this morning (along with 2 others who haven't touched an aircraft in years)!?

I half want to wear 2C tomorrow just to annoy him, probably get ordered to take it off mind.

AP1358 RAF Dress Regulations.c. Dark Blue Working Shirt. RAF dark blue working shirt, No 2C SD is authorised for wear, throughout the year, by airmen in those trades listed below. It is to be worn with creases pressed in on each sleeve running from the centre of the epaulette to the cuff. Sleeves may be rolled up. A tie is never worn with this shirt.TG 1 Aircraft Engineering TG 6 Logistics (MTD)TG 2 Electrical Engineering TG 8 Fire Fighters onlyTG 3 Ground Electronic Engineering TG13 Safety & SurfaceTG4 Information Communication Technology TG 18 Logistics (Supply & Movements)TG 5 General Engineering

The AP is on the internet (it's slightly out of date but not in respect of 2c): http://www.raf.mod.uk/downloads/ap1358.cfm

It depends on what the SNCO meant.

If they meant that the only time an individual can wear the dark blue working shirt is under coveralls, then that would not be in accordance with the AP.

If, however, they meant that the only thing that can be worn under coveralls is a dark blue shirt, then that isn't covered by the AP as the wearing of coveralls is an order of uniform - they are protective clothing.

You techies have some fun times passing the day.

Many thanks for your replies! Again, I apologise in advance for no formatting! Yep, aware of 1358, but I was after some sort of regulations for overalls. Back to the drawing board! :D

Your Sgt is being a chimp. 1 layer of clothing must be worn under coveralls, it says fook all about it having to be dark blue shirts.

I think the point is that, environmental considerations permitting, the layer of clothing underneath should be trousers and longsleeve shirt, to provide some degree of protection to the wearer, shorts and t-shirts don't count.

It begs the question how such a chimp attained the status of SNCO.

Probably the same chimp we had in the ESA at a secret maritime base DE Cpl then) who said we couldn't wear dark blue shirts with V neck pullovers...

Does he avoid stepping on the cracks between flagstones in case something terrible happens?

wow good to see the promotion system working!

i take it he's so good at his primary role this is the only thing left for him to worry about?

Speaking from memory, i'm pretty sure that you aren't (weren't) allowed to wear a dark blue shirt with a V neck, as the V neck has to be worn with a tie and you can't wear a tie with a dark blue shirt. It may have changed!

Indeed. If your going to put out such a statement which you believe to be fact, to your lads.....why on earth am I hearing more and more that these bellends aren't first making sure it's a valid one?

One of the quickest ways to lose respect in my eyes.

I was under the impression V neck jumpers could be worn with an open collar?

A quick look at AP 1358 (freely available on the Internet) shows this...
