Does anyone know how this 'list' works After you email? Some peeps say that it goes on last posting overseas or the date you joined up if never served. If this is true, is there any other factors taking into account as I have missed out to people who I know have been in a lot less time than me! I just want to know how it all works as it can't be just a lottery. The desk must have guide lines which they have to work to regarding this.

Supposed to be date of attestation or end of last overseas tour. So the earliest date of attestation should go unless somebody else completed an oversees tour longer ago than that.

Some of these 'adverts' for the posts did request certain qualifications and waiver of 90 days notice. This may have bumped people up the list.

Time served and/or last overseas tour apply they can only say no!!!

I remember the good ol' days of the 1st come 1st served "list". When you apply you go to the bottom. Then one day at some point in your career you get a lovely phone call informing you that you're posted to Cyprus (or wherever) for 3 years. Then you put your name straight back on the list on tourex (if so inclined)

I'm not sure about how practical/fair it is these days. For the next 3-6 years it looks like theres ZERO chance of getting an overseas tour if you've been away before at any point in your career, regardless of how suitable the individual is for the job.

You could be applying for every overseas post in your trade for the next 10 years, but there'll always be a guy who's never been overseas, even though he's only been in the RAF for 3/4 years.

I think not young man (1981?)
I know of people going overseas to overseas, retouring on promotion, last tour, a year in the UK.
The system is a lottery. There will always be the excuse of, no other candidates, but I guess that is why they never advertise the good ones.

I have fancied a Cyprus tour but there seemed very little chance, every slot for the last 3 years seems to have been filled locally or extended.

If you are referring to stackers in that you are talking complete rubbish.

Back in my day, you got a dream sheet every two years or so.

Every time I put BASC (Berlin Air Safety Centre) at the top.

Never got it !!

Applied 3 times for Cypres and 3 times never been offered. In my eyes it is a lottery. When i first joined up you had to Gen app to get your name on the list if i remember correctly. JPA arrived the list got deleted and we had to apply.

But hey ho life in a blue suit

Once you have won the lottery and been selected to go overseas it still needs to be accepted by boss, after getting the Jengo drunk on det he informed me i had been offered posting twice that year but the Sengo had squashed them both as he was worried about his lack of manpower, you would assume that the drafter would make that decision as its his/her job but apparently not....
