Just trying to get some advice here. I have just been told that I am 'Permanently Medically Unfit' for commission in any branch or for ATC (SNCO) by the Medical Board at Cranwell. In speaking with my SMO, she's believes it to be due to a 'back injury in 2006 that lasted for more than six weeks'. I am planning on appealing this decision and would like to know if any one has been down this route before, how they went about the appeal and if they were successful or not.

Of course I'm disappointed in receiving this information; even more so considering I'm already serving and deemed in a fit enough state to deploy in support of Ops during the middle of next year.

Thanks in advanced!

Just to add to the above, I have recovered fully from the injury and have had no reoccurring symptoms at all; even during strenuous field exercises, gym sessions or day to day activity.

Hairy; sorry to hear you weren't successful. Any appeal you make against the Board's decision will need you to show new evidence about your condition i.e. an orthopaedic specialists letter or something of that ilk. That will then go to the President of the Medical Board. Any further appeal will go to the Consultant in Occupational Medicine and his decision is pretty much final. It may well be worth having your SMO refer you for an orthpaedic specialist first for their opinion. Good luck!

Thanks for the above. I didn't think this would be an issue considering the duration of no symptoms or issues. Even more so considering that I'm already serving and able to deploy to an operational theatre. I'm sure that if there was suspected issues with my fitness, I wouldn't have been upgraded all them years ago and certainly wouldn't be able to deploy!
