P8A Squadron Number Announced

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
And the winner is.....

CXX Squadron. Next Sqn to be formed after that will be 201. Both based at Lossie.

I think the plan is to stand them both up at the same time. 120 live and 201 OCU.

201 in 2021.

Techy manpower I'm assuming will come from a push on the training system and a trawl to see who fancies Lossiemouth and some really good short detachments and airshow...they're going to want to show it off!

I'd have thought a fair few tornado dudes will get shafted to go from marham to lossie to fix these.

Along with a lot of PVRs.

I think the location is sh1t...I really do and I hated most every moment of my time at ISK however, I could and did engineer it so that I was away from the place for a good portion of the year.

Maritime detachments can be just a few days long...you go sit in Norway for a few days or Cyprus or just about anywhere the taskers at Northwood can find you work. Then you get the exercises that take you to Gib (not sure this jet can get in and out of the place now they have painted the threshold there in a different place), Hawaii, East or West Coast of the US, France, Acores or just about anywhere with a MPA entitiy that wants to play...and their are the ops which are not for discussion on here but I can vouch that they are quick reaction, exciting, fun and just about anywhere.

If you're young, unattached or with a partner that has the patience of Jobe then do think twice about it....Its different from mainstream RAF in so many ways.

There are very few TG1 from the Tornado Force that haven't already been 'earmarked' for roles. Even before you get to P8 manning they have to find JSF, and the extra 2 Typhoon Sqn's worth of manpower which are due 18/19.... Oh yes and fill the 600 current holes!!
Yes you can recruit but you cannot get the numbers to replace those already walking.

Interested to see where the money comes from for all these world-wide trips you all mention. Times are a changing!!! Interoperability can now be done using linked sims!! We don't have to advertise it as they seem to be selling quite well already!

Don't push to hard it might break a bit more. There are already moves afoot to create a single DE course from the corpses of the current AMM and FT courses, very simplistically the plan is to smash the two courses together find duplication and remove it. Bingo no more AMM's and techie training will become a one stop shop until you reach JNCO.

And the wheel completes another full turn, I give it 10 years before someone has a great idea to have 2 part training

I'm hoping that the loss C4I Sqn get first refusal for any TG4 posts on P8. From what A6 have briefed us it looks like an amazing job with some good kit and even better training courses (6 month Q course in Jacksonville :PDT_Xtremez_17:)

You can have a lot of fun in Jacksonville...MPA's have to,practice dropping torpedos and the only place to do it is in the Bahamas so they base themselves in Florida and nip across to the range. Normally they use a base on the edge of Miami but we used Jax one year...well placed for Disney, Canaveral and Daytona!

Can you see manning going with that? They would then have to post another person to fill your slot.

P8A Squadron Numbering

P8A Squadron Numbering

A bit off topic but is there a convention for naming/numbering Sqns?

Indeed there is!

1. six-one-spit are sacrosanct
2. Check out career path of current RAF Chief and apply appropriate sqn accordingly
3. Think of a Sqn number stood down who recently filled similar role
4. Sustained newspaper (usually the Mail) campaign
