Mrs Bitburger, the two mini bitburgeretts (18 +16) and myself are going to Paphos shortly for some Spring sunshine.

Has anyone been and can recommend any good places to eat and any good bars to drink in.

Also has anyone been to Cyprus since the change to the Euro and know what affect this has had on prices?

I quite like the Aki Arms or the New Inn. A bit of a drive but a good night out.:PDT_Xtremez_15:

I'll get my coat

There's a nice parade of restaurants by the harbour a little pricey but a nice place to sit and watch the world go by with a beer.

Aki Arms not really a family night out, or wasn't. You'll get the best fish mesi on the planet at the tavern just as you come into Pisouri Jetty (bout half way between paphos ans Akrotiri.

Quite jealous. Have fun!

Mrs AZ and myself out to Paphos on 20th April we go every year as we now have an apartment there. The harbour tavernas are all pretty good and the Irish Rugby Bar worth a visit (excellent english sunday lunch). The taverna overlooking Aphrodites Rock about 20 min drive is very good too. Is it definately Euros now? I heard that cypriot was still in use

Me & mrs_collie were out there a couple of weeks ago. It is euros now, but the locals still calculate everything in cyp pounds.

Yep, Cyprus is now in the Eurozone, and pretty much everywhere is now only taking the euro. If you still have Cy£ knocking around, all the banks will exchange them at a standard commission free rate.

I would suspect that you really don't want to go the the Aki strip. For one thing it will probably be a 40min drive at least. There is a decent Italian and the local food in Sylvanas is good with a decent view over the salt lake to Limassol when sat outside. Apart from that I wouldn’t bother. The Aki Arms is a hole and not a place to go as a family.

As for restaurants in Paphos, if I'm honest most of them I have been to are OK, but none have really stood out as being one that 'we must go back to'. The only two I would recommend are on the Tomb of the Kings road and only about 200m away from each other.

Fat Mamas which gets packed early (you can’t book) and does the usual steaks, pasta and pizzas which is good, but the entertainment from the staff is what makes it. The other is Zorbas and as the name suggests is mostly local food. Good food at a good price served by a traditional surely waiter.

Have a good holiday

(Sorry, and in answer to your last question, prices have rocketed. Not necessarily since the Euro, but since I was last here. This is not the cheap 'holiday tour' it used to be.)

Then again, it isn't p1ssing down UK either

Sorry to hijack your thread Bit but I'll be there (Akrotiri) in about 3 weeks and, God willing, I'll be available for beer (and skittles) over the weekend...The Stig (not the real one but the one who posts on here will probably be with me as well)....PM if you are at a loose end and feel left out sitting on your island paradise...:PDT_Xtremez_17:

The Germans all whine about the Euro's introduction.
Most of the shops, bars and restaurants used it as an excuse to hike prices by 20-30%.

So imagine it's the same case there too, but then again it's probably still cheaper than UK.

Have fun, don't have too many brandy sour's!:PDT_Xtremez_35:

You will not get onto any of the bases unless you know someone that can sponsor you. (That is if I read right that you don't have a valid Service ID card)

Thanks PD TC, I would like any members based at akt to pm me to help its been 20 years since i was last based there and want to show family my old haunts and visit the movers basically, any help deeply appreciated

Unfortunately I think you will find offers to be in short supply mate. Recent cases of personnel abusing the systems, the problems with local expats getting passes to use/abuse the facilities on base and security breaches has brought this to the front of many peoples minds. That coupled with that fact that an individual was returned to the UK within 2 days of 'mis-sponsoring' someone not too long ago make it more trouble than its worth.

On a more positive note, It may be worthwhile writing a letter of OC Sy at Aki explaining the situation, giving you Service details and requesting a day pass.

We live in Peyia, just west of Paphos and have been here for nearly 5 years. Prices may have gone up with the introduction of the Euro, but worse is that the GBP has fallen enormously in value recently.

Back on topic, you may be interested to know that the paphos waterpark near the hotel complexes is closed till 1st May but there is a great go-kart track rite by it great adult racing cars very fast. nearest other aquapark is aya napa which is open now. As said previosly most of the restaurants on the tomb of the kings road are very good and as most cater for locals they are reasonably priced. best deals to be found in old pafos town hope this helps......when will you actually be there Bitburger?

The ATLAS resteraunt (Aianappa), Eriks (bar/rest), (Aianappa), and mypal tells me there's a good one by the harbour. If you fancy some English Fish & Chips, there's always "The original chippy" in NISSI Ave.
