Following the latest letter from Command reference the loss of funding for Paramedic courses, has anyone heard anymore information? The people in the know seem to have all gone underground and would be nice to be able to tell the guys in my section who are currently waiting to start their training exactly what's happening!

Does this "...loss of funding for Paramedic courses..." have a knock on effect for helicopter SAR crews do you know, or is just limited to trades within the ground-based medical environment?

NR might be an idea to try and contact the Guys on DARTs they may know more PM me and I will dig out some numbers. No idea about SAR but I think it just applies to RAF Medics going through the training will find out!

Penfold, thanks but already been there! Even tried wee Pammy and Andy but they all seem to be keeping their heads down. I'm sure someone in 'Authority' will let us know what's happening at some point.

Bugger, this is'nt good to hear.

The offer of the paramedic course was the reason i've just signed back on!! Is there any other route open for state registared Qual'd status? I've heard the armys snake course can, any one have any gen on this?

The apparent word from on high (Gp Capt level) is that there still isn't any sign of funding which is a definite worry. Not for me, I really don't like patients but for some of my junior members of staff it's made them want to leave the RAF. A lot of them were only holding out for the hope of doing the training and the tonnage of paperwork being dumped on med centre's these days isn't helping.

A friend of mine was part way through his when they "suspended" it. Seems they realised the education side of it costs a lot!

He'll probably read this and then inform me of the latest gen!

Was with Darts today and OC said the course will be back on as of this time next year. Good news.

That's good news, out of interest what sort of course is it? IHCD,Degree? and how to you get the hands on clinical experience in all the areas that the HPC require?

I'm not 100% sure, but I've heard that there is an arrangement with GWAS for getting road time.

Good news for those technicians waiting for a paramedic course. The word from the TG15 conference is that they've managed to get find funding for 10 out of the 18 technicians to carry on with their training. As to how they'll work out who is to be picked, watch this space! Either way, it's a big well done to the Command guys, we know how hard it is to get any money out of the MOD (and it's not often I congratulate Command!).:PDT_Xtremez_30:

You are joking aren't you? a big well done to the command guys, the very same command guys who have f**ked this whole process up. The same command guys who hadn't secured the finance to see the project through. The same command guys who have left medics dangling with the promise of a qual that is civi recognised only for the course to cease half way through. The same command guys who forgot to enter a return of service on the 1st course...most PVR'd when qualified. The 8 that are not selected I am sure will be sending the command guys their best wishes for a job very well done.

Whoo, slow down Tex! From the information I've gleaned it took a lot of negotiation to even get the funding for the next 10 to carry on with their training so at least they tried. It could have been worse, they might have come away with nothing and that would be 18 kids probably waving goodbye to the RAF. Yes, the situation is f**ked up and my personal opinion is that your average RAF Medic is going to become a thing of the past unless the powers that be get a grip. Out of 7 of my SACs, 3 have PVR'd already and one is just waiting for the outcome of the next promotion board and I don't want to lose them because they're bloody good workers. Without diving into the pay debate, the shineys got their lift up to the new pay scale because of JPA. We have JPA, P2P and the delight that is DMICP and still don't seem to be able to prove ourselves special enough to be paid better. Add that to all the life-saving stuff OOA on MERT etc it's no wonder some of my guys are feeling a tad undervalued. Anyway, back on track. As I said, it's not often I'm nice to the command bunnies but at least some of them went the extra mile. I'll be sure to slam them if they screw up. Honest.

Any light at the end of the tunnel??

Any light at the end of the tunnel??

Still at dmstc so have a while before im posted, but as its been a while is there any new gen on paramedic training for the future? Trying to get any thing at my end but its pretty quiet.

There's a course scheduled to start in April I believe but I'm not entirely sure of what happens after that. You'll need to get yourself to your medical centre first and have a few years experience under your belt until you'll be considered elegible to apply for the paramedic course. Enjoy the rest of your time at Keogh, no other camp will ever seem as bad once you've been there!

Doing 'the course' is all well and good, but unless the Air Heads address what will happen afterwards, how best to use the medics with state registration, the pay and promotion issue and how to support their CPD, it'll all go tits up within a couple of years.

There's much more to being a paramedic than just doing a course.

Sorry to thread jump but are they going to start this up again? as I hear the navy are going to do a paramedic cource.

I'd like to know where you get this snippet of gen from? My fella is Navy SAR (well he's Marines but it's the same thing) and this is total crap. The RN purposely only let them have 2 and a half year drafts to SAR so that they are not entitled to full a paramedics course and for a bit of harmony with their families before they are back front line in his case back to the junglie boys.
