Can someone please help me ?

My home PC (which I have replaced recently due to lack of time to fix it) has start-up problems.

It's a Jetway 740DMU Motherboard with AMD Athlon XP2100 CPU.

Sometimes there's no POST 'BEEP' and sometimes there's a constant high freq beep pointing to the CPU cooling.

Trouble is, I have replaced the cpu fan with a new one and also tried replacing the PSU, swapping the memory cards over and also tried different hard drives all to no avail.

I am now thinking it's a motherboard/cpu problem.

Anyone got any other ideas?

A high frequency beep would suggest that the cpu is overheating, but I'm assuming you have a good power connection for your new fan and it is turning on start up. Dodgy RAM maybe? I think you only need one stick to be dead (if you have multiple ones) to cause problems. Just a thought, I'm no compie geek.

Yes, the CPU Fan and case fan are all running, as I said it's a new fan

I had a similar problem , sadly the motherboard was fecked.

It could be that the components measuring temp have been fried. In which case you might be hard pushed these days to find a "good" socket A (AMD Athlon) motherboard.

Hi Edzar,

How urgently are you wanting to get this machine going ? Just asking as I know I have a socket A motherboard and CPU (same speed as yours IIRC) under the stairs. Still fitted to old chassis but the missus won't be able to get it out and i won't be back till early July.

Just let me know, you know where I am.

Crack on.......................:PDT_Xtremez_09:

Nice one Tashy. :PDT_Xtremez_30:

I have spent all day swapping Motherboards etc around, borrowing a couple of old machines from a neighbour and I have got it working with a new motherboard/cpu but I have also discovered my HDD was goosed too. No wonder I was having so much trouble::P:

Tashy, give I'll PM you for that board/cpu :PDT_Xtremez_28:

Thanks for your inputs guys
