Hi there, was pointed here, I was out walking today and stumbled upon a memorial cross, its on Whittles Pike, the highest point on Scout Moor above Edenfield in Lancashire

Flying officer Geoffrey Molyneux http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_EK-YCx52PsU/R9Qz6OnpCbI/AAAAAAAAAJE/_JH9D8C5T5s/s1600-h/DSC03730.JPG

Any info much appreciated, Im ex signals 30 pigs, hello TCW.

Here ya go. check out the memorial plaque, the name and date are the same, dangerous times and must have been a sad night for all involved.

Just love the Scout moor propellers.

It would appear that F/O G Molyneux was lost when a Shackleton of 42 sqn that he was flying in disappeared into the Atlantic on the evening of 11 Jan 55. There was also another Shack lost from the same squadron on the same evening :PDT_Xtremez_09:. Judging by the pictures on that site I would hazard a guess that 42 was based at St Mawgan at the time.

(I think this is the link that JL was attempting to post above).
