Its almost time again for the RBL's poppy appeal, so if you can give a few hours of your time to help out with this worthwhile cause check out the web site: http://www.britishlegion.org.uk/index.cfm?asset_id=513104

I spent two hours outside of B&Q last year and raised £90, so its a very worthwhile thing to do.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep,
though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Having organised our local Poppy appeal I can only say that we always need collectors since changing jobs I attempt to take at least one day in the week and assist on the Saturday unless I am elsewhere.

If you would like to help contact your Local British legion they will welcome you with welcome arms.

If you do help thank you in advance.

** Shouting wind apologies if I have hijacked your post ps thanks for the link to the umbrellas.

I sent my details to RBL earlier this year.

Both I and Mrs NAT would love to spend a weekend in October/November standing around a cold, windy shopping centre.

(At least selling poppies will stop her from buying frocks!)

I spent every weekday evening and a couple of hours on the Saturdays last year inside the local Tesco as a Poppy Person, we collected over £2500 there, the area as a whole collected over £8K, £2K up on the year before.
Name is already down for this year.

Got my name down too. Will be my 4th year of collecting and I thoroughly enjoy it.

A Poem for Remembrance Day

"The inquisitive mind of a child"
Why are they selling poppies, Mummy?
Selling poppies in town today.
The poppies, child, are flowers of love.
For the men who marched away.

But why have they chosen a poppy, Mummy?
Why not a beautiful rose?
Because my child, men fought and died
In the fields where the poppies grow.

But why are the poppies so red, Mummy?
Why are the poppies so red?
Red is the colour of blood, my child.
The blood that our soldiers shed.

The heart of the poppy is black, Mummy.
Why does it have to be black?
Black, my child, is the symbol of grief.
For the men who never came back.

But why, Mummy are you crying so?
Your tears are giving you pain.
My tears are my fears for you my child.
For the world is forgetting again.
