I'm posted from East Anglia to Grampian (Scotland), just wondering what I can claim?

I know I can claim Disturbance, what else? How many vehicles can I claim for the journey up? Can I claim any subsistence for me, my wife or kids etc? Can I claim for carrying my motorbike on a trailer?

As I remember it last time I moved you get:
Disturbance
A Duty Journey Lower for you and passenger rate for family.
You may get something in way of subsistance depending on journey distance and if you have to stop over on the way driving hours as you are technically on duty if its your march in day. Plus the journey is almost 12 hrs long officially.
Fek all for the extra of towing a bike.
Pretty much same for the extra car unless you have enough family to require both for 1 journey.

Try this for a clearer picture

or ask a scribbly

I believe also you can claim for 1 return journey prior to moving in to "see" the house. It is called a preliminary visit and is covered in JSP 752 under Duty Travel. That is of course providing you actually made the journey :PDT_Xtremez_15:

Dont forget your relocation leave of up to 5 days!

And get told to ring JPAC. That's if you can get to PSF when it's not closed for trade training sports etc

I think if you rode the bike you could claim but don't knowabout towing it on a trailer. I know my move last year I claimed for two cars.

you can claim for two cars on assignment if your wife can drive

nothing for towing

not sure about the prelim visit though, i didnt think that was available for a move within the uk, would be best to check it out fully

whatever advice you get I would advise you to get it in writing and you will probably need to apply for duty visits (that would involve getting DS for you and your family) etc in advance anyway.

Most things are in writing. Its called the JSP 752 and I'm not having a dig but judging by your user name you are a scribbly and thats where the problem usually lies. Scribblies assuming that something cannot be claimed for and providing incorrect advice and then having to fight to get the claim approved by stating paragraph and page number of where it says you can claim.

Like I said I'm not having a dig, but just stating what my experience has been.

If the paragraph in the JSP says you can have it, then where's the problem?

The Allowances JSP is not owned or written by scribblies. It is applicable to all of us.

I know you can claim for towing a bike for sports journey under carriage of sports equipment. The bike I'm on about is an off-road bike.

Pretty certain you can only claim this if you're moving in to rented (by the RAF) accommodation, not sure if it is still called excess rent? I think you can do the prelim to look at the houses you think are suitable.

what about overseas then? can you go and have a look at your qtr before you go or when you come back.

it does seem a bit odd that i have been given a bit of grief by sniffer for warning the op to check out fully what he is entitled to before doing anything - even though it is actually sniffer that is doling out the bad gen on the thread!

what i was trying to get at was that it is everyones responsibility to check their own entitlement - dont take anyones word for it (either scribblies or random posters on unnoffical forums) as you will be the one out of pocket at the end of it.
