Does the PSB have your date of birth/age while reviewing your SJARS?

Are all of the SJARS in your current rank read by the PSB, or just your last 3/4?

Is it mandatory that you are graded against others? Eg a statement like - "Sgt Jones is the 2nd best of 6 SNCO's on this squadron"

Yes

Normally the last 3 years

It's not mandatory, but helps the PSB if the comment is there

Hope this helps.

There was no visability of age/DOB when I did one last year. Why is that relevant?

You need to quantify the statement.

What if you were the 4th best........out of 4?!!

If you have that written make sure it's quantified.

Isn't it on the front of the SJAR?

Well there was no visibility on the tabs I was looking at, I specifically asked about it while I was there. Perhaps somebody with recent reading experience can confirm this.

I find it a pretty poor way of judging someone, to say they are 'x' out of 'y' on a sqn. I'm amazed this way of writing somebody up has been embraced by the RAF. What if you have 4 amazing people and you are number 4?! Surely it would be easier just to write somebody up as normal without using what is potentially an instant switch off for a PSB reader.

If you were reviewing SJARs then the DoB is right on the front page on the personal tab which, as a board member, you get to view. As for the relevance of rieviewing a DoB, I'm not sure.

I don't see why dob should be looked at personally but I might be biased as I'm a young cpl who's just done a stint as acting sgt so I'd be pritty raging If I was marked down as "less appropriate" because of my age! Of course I am biased though!

That will not go against you, somebodys version of young will be different to anothers. How old do you consider to be young for a cpl?

The thing is, by looking at dates of birth and ages, you are being ageist. The last Prom Board I sat, we didn't look at the DOB or ages.

Also, it's not a bad thing to say out of 10 Cpls, Cpl X is in the top 2 but the person needs to be in a position of authority to say this.

For example, Cpl X is by far the best Cpl on the Stn. Unless the RO has worked with all the other Cpls then it's a pointless statement.

I was 21 when I originally got me tapes like

Amazing!

I've seen so many threads on here on how hard done-by TG1 are because they have to progress through extra ranks, yet you have managed to get your tapes at an age when most AV Techs would only just be going back for FT.

Just out of interest, how did you manage to pack your basic & trade training, first tour, further training and another tour before you were picked up at 21? IIRC, AV Mech's did about a year in initial trade training, then a couple of years on a Sqn, followed by an 18 month FT course. That's over 4 years before you have even become eligible for promotion. It must have been a bloody good first 6 months you had after FT to be picked up so quickly!

(You're not ILLBW's secret love child are you)

I was one of the chosen few, sac t who, after basic, did about 15 months at cosford then off I popped to my first station after which point I got promoted off of 3 assessments. I suppose it helped that I had different 1st ro's from different sections saying how awesome I was!
Did some time for the queen too hence the young age.
