I have done over 22 yrs now and now looking to move on with a few bob in my pocket, couple of q's please:

1. When you do the termination thing on JPA can you 'pick' a date you want ie in 1 year or in line with the current waiting time eg 6 months hence - does this get approved by your line manager and then Manning?

2. If I managed to get a job offer and they wanted me to start asap - perhaps after 1 month - could I stick a date of leaving as any leave I have left (re-assessed) + GRT + Terminal Leave and work when my GRT starts - so about 10 weeks before my discharge date?

3. If I put in a date of +1 year would I be exempt any DWR allocations (I haven't got pinged yet)?

Many thanks

Having just done this I can pass on my experience. I pvrd after 26 years due to a standing job offer and they let me out in three months. I could probably have gone sooner if I had pushed it and given up the GRT. As you can't (officially) earn during GRT as it is classed as duty you may have to forego it if a quick start job offer comes in. The only other stumbling block is if you have applied for a date longer than the standard 6 months and then try to change it. Your line management will have to agree to run light for the period you are not going to be there. The ultimate decision will lie with manning and depend on the FMDL of your trade. Don't forget to apply for your pension before you leave via JPA. As for PWR during notice, I can't answer that one. Ask for a long lead in before discharge and it wouldn't surprise me if they did jiff you but I don't know the policy.

Good luck. Personally I am cr@pping myself in some ways but for me the time and job offer made it the right time to leave.

Nice one thanks.

I can understand your feelings but enough is enough - I just don't enjoy it anymore at all so time to try something else! I know the grass isn't greener on the outside....it's is just different grass!

You have to actually apply for your pension? Is it not automatic?

Blimey,

cheers for the info

I've just PVR'd 4 days ago, JPA does ask you to put in a release date, however the RAF have the final say. If you want to leave earlier than the 6 months there is less of a chance of them letting you go.

I chose a date just over the six month period in an attempt to ensure that I got it.

Like you, I wasn't aware that you had to apply for your pension.

Form filling in was never my strong point but PF1 was done with multiple checks afterwards, sent recorded delivery and receipted.

I'm almost in the same boat myself- had a call ref a couple of jobs yesterday, so just thinking about exit dates etc. Fingers crossed as I'm not getting any younger :)
