Does anybody know of somebody getting away with leaving and giving just 1 months notice instead of sticking to the minimum waiting time? I have been told that the EU law that monthly paid workers only have to give a months notice has been sucessfully used by some. The reason being that the MoD won't go to court for fear of setting a precedent. Any help gratefully received. Ta:PDT_Xtremez_31:

It's been known to happen, depending on the needs of the Service, but you would have to have a written job offer and your line manager would have to agree to running light for a few months. The "EU law" which I first heard cited around 15 years ago is bogus I'm afraid but I reckon your chances of getting out earlier than the minimum waiting time are fairly good at the moment. It might not be so good if the anticipated post-redundancy PVR spike turns out to be bigger than planned against.

The record that I know of so far is 2 days, though the chap in question did indeed have a job offer and the leaping heap force was winding down at the time.

After two guys leaving in quick succession (just a few days notice) our wing co said no more. Everyone to serve their 6 months. To be fair the majority of us went looking for other employment and if it was still allowed I very much doubt I'd still be where I am.

So there is a problem with retention then?
