Guys,

On the subject of PVR I could do with some advice before going down the official route, but I think I know what the answer is going to be.

I have applied for an Overseas tour, done my full pensionable 22 in April and been back in the UK 18 years. I am at present in for LOS 30. I am in a small trade and by process of elimination I think I am certainly in the top 3 or top for the post. If I dont get it I want to PVR that day, not out of protest or anything its just that, that is my earmarked decision day as I have external obligations to keep and they have been put on hold and time is running out. I am sure though that if I am unsuccesful I will be hit for an OOA which will then mean doing 18 months to exit. That would really screw up my plans.

Firstly how do you PVR now, is it by JPA or an original paper application?

Now the crunch, could you do it pending ie, submit it writing if I am unsuccesful for the blah blah blah position I have aplied for then I wish to proceed with my 12 month PVR.

I think I can guess the answer but in these crazy times who knows it might be worth a bash.

Thanks

No such thing as a PVR - it is now done on line with JPA and is known as an Early Termination where you request your required exit date.
The whole process now takes about a month for you to get a workflow notification of your confirmed exit date.

I have just done it myself:PDT_Xtremez_28: Its time to leave

You could always word it as such:-

"I want to leave the Royal Air Force so that I may join the Circus,

SO THAT I CAN WORK FOR PROFESSIONAL CLOWNS AND NOT YOU AMATURE HALF WITS.

You obedeant servent

But as far as I know it is all done on JPA now, from what I have heard it might be station dependant, they could ask you to put in both paper and jpa, might as well give them a ring, it cant hurt to ask

You could always submit it and ask your line manager/Flt Cdr to hang onto it in their JPA workflow for a few weeks.

Guys, thanks for the advice so far however, I have something else to ponder.

I am deperate to go overseas, hence if not my PVR will go in, chatted it over with a WO pal of mine today. He came up with the suggestion PVR/ give notice/termination put a date down as say 40 months notice and then apply for last tour of duty in said location.

I like his thinking outside the box answer but I have my doubts it would wash. I would be elegible for a last tour overseas as I fit the said criteria, ie married to a local, have a house there and I have a residency visa, but could you see PMA going for it. It would prove to them though that I would be committed to serving a full 3 year tour something they have stipulated, I would be stupid not to.

It it was possible to do but I didnt get the post, could I then alter my notice date ie bring it forward by say "28 months".

I am expecting what the answer will be but who knows.

Cheers for the help.

I was at a JPA conference a while back and somebody asked if he could be considered for a overseas last tour, the reply was "only in exceptional circumstances i.e married to a local or have a house there".

So good luck....

I suspect that you're unlikely to get posted overseas as a last tourist (especially if you've put your notice in) but once you're there and you fit the criteria you have every chance, a few have done it in Ramstein recently. After 18 years back in the UK you must be in with a good shout of the post; I take it you've used the open door facility to advise your CM of the facts regarding house/visa etc. It's what it's there for and can't do your case any harm.

Yes I have done all I can, I have sat down with my Chf Clk and gone through the AP3392 I think it is. I have done 22 years and 18 of those back in the UK. Being a small trade I have done my homework and thought I was in with a good shout. It has now been suggested to me that I could easily be beat by a far junior SGT, ie one that may have only been in for instance 14/17 years.

I am all for fairness and everybody having the opportunity but it seems to suggest that if you came back from an overseas before they even joined up then they take priority. I am sure that is not right.

My trade desk is aware of what I want and seems a good bloke, but I really dont want to harass him as I just have to sit patient, I feel though if I dont really have a chance then bang out now on my terms.

Any thoughts.

When is the lucky winner of the overseas lottery to be announced? Would it be worth waiting a few more weeks just to be certain?

A couple of years ago (just before JPA) I was OOA and got a call from my drafter. Seemed I had bubbled to the top of the overseas list and a short notice job had come up and did I want it? Result:PDT_Xtremez_30: - but I would need to get my **** in a sock and be ready to move within weeks of getting home. So Hu & and his family busily set everything up, let the house etc..... Things went quiet and on contacting the drafter seems someone had been promoted into the same rank as me but as he had been on the overseas list longer he had jumped ahead, and as the drafter hadn't bothered to actually raise any paperwork yet (He meant to do it but went on leave and forgot........FFS - he also "forgot" to tell me too) so muggins is ****ed over with no right to appeal.

I guess what I'm trying to say is - its the Air Force not the Fair Force, and you know where to find sympathy in the dictionary don't you

Now that the overseas list as we knew it no longer exists career managers have the opportunity to select the best applicant for the job. I would say that someone who has previously completed an overseas tour (no matter how long ago) would be better prepared for a tour somewhere in Eastern Europe than a relative newbie.

If the post is somewhere with an established infrastructure (e.g., Nato posts) or to a country where English is the first language or at least commonly spoken (e.g., USA, Canada, Australia) then the opportunity should (IMO) be given to someone who has never been overseas.

Mate, if you don't ask you don't get! Like you say you have a good chance of getting the slot oversees but not a definite.

When you apply for early termination (just done it :-) you can use the drop-down menu box to amplify your reason. Tell it like it is, I, like you have served oversees & would withdraw my notice in a heartbeat if Germany was an option.

As your trade is a small one, then chances are that ACOS manning will not want to lose you easily, if they do, then so be it. You sound like you are set on living oversees with your partner so you really have nowt to lose!

Good luck.

Me thinks this info maybe of no use (to the original poster) as this this was 7 months ago !!

Crack on..........................:PDT_Xtremez_09:

Nearly finished my bottle of Apfel Korn...........................:-)

Has he gone or what?

A few years go whilst at ye olde PMC (PMA to those not) been in long enough) I came across an PVR application from a Chef with the following reasons for wishing to leave the RAF: " I believe in Gnomes, Goblins and fearies at the bottom of the garden, but a worthwhile career in the RAF is pushing it a bit"

Needless to say it had been fully approved by his Line manager and beyond.:PDT_Xtremez_14:
