According to reports, Liverpool Manager Rafa Benitez ison the verge of leaving the club:

Personally, I was/am a member of the 'In Rafa We Trust' brigade, though last season my patience was being severely tested. However, I believe his position has been made untenable by the yanks' mismanagement of our finances. Maybe the time indeed has come for him to move on? On top of tha, who should replace him? Kenny Dalglish will probably take over as a temporary measure if he does go, a move which will please most of our fans who would want him to take over long term (a Liverpool man and a no-cost option). Mourinho was never going to be an option really and I've personally never been a fan of Hodgson or O'Neill (the latter will probably go to Man U anyway). Guus Hiddink could be a choice, but would he be prepared to manage a club with little or no financial backing?

As an Evertonian, I am very sad to see 'Roffer' may be lwaving.

In fact, offering him 3 million to go, Im going to start a whip round to try and pay him to stay ha ha!

I love to see the state this once proud club has got itself in, what wouldnt you lot give to have David Moyes?

Well done Agent Rafa, come in your time is up.....

Moyes? Really? I don't think so. We may be on the bones of our arse, but credit us with SOME class please.

Dalglish won't want the job after he bottled it last time.

I hear the chuckle brothers may be tempted out of retirement.

.....to me, to you.

As St Domingo said, come in agent rafa, you've done a fine job.

they probably would be tempted but i believe they are in line to replace a certain gum chewing beetroot faced jock next year !

Wrong mate. Fergie to retire in 3 years aged 70, Mourinho has been promised the job for ages, as any clued up people in football will tell you.

PSB - I know that you are adamant that he was no good. Who would you like back. We did best when Phil Thompson was in charge whilst Houllier was sick. He should be brought back if available.

I'm not sure how you come to that conclusion, we had our up days and our down days with Benitez, that was the problem IMHO. Regardless of the ownership issues, Rafa is the one who selected the team and mandated the way they would play when he sent them out and far too often we came up short. I'll look back at Istanbul and Cardiff the following year with fond memories, but the time had come to part.

I don't necessarily want anyone back although giving Dalglish the reins until someone else is appointed makes sense. I just want someone to steady the ship and secure the confidence of the players, which I'm sure Rafa lost; certainly this year he did. O'Neill is not the man for me, great motivator and man manager but weak tactician as far as I'm concerned. Hiddink would be a good choice, but would he come?

PSB - I agree with you, we need the dressing room behind the Manager, at times during the season, Gerrard was looking dejected in some games and other players seemed to be just going through the motions. The lack in confidence stood out on the pitch and seemed to be both ways. I remember the days when a team travelling to Anfield held it great esteem, not so the last season as it was always which Liverpool team was going play, the real team who put on the shirt and played their hearts out or the clones that must have been kept in reserve, the names were right but their hearts were not in it.

Absolutely correct mate. The mystique that surrounded Anfield and Liverpool in days gone by has melted away; when Reading came to Anfield in the FA cup last season they came knowing they had a chance of winning, you could sense it out on the pitch that night.
No team has a divine right to go out and win against another ranked lower than them but there are certain ways of approaching those games. And all too often it hasn't happened under Benitez in domestic competitions.

Despite his notable triumphs in europe and a very creditable record for the club he managed for 350 games, and he lost only 79 of them, he missed out on the one thing most fans craved. Never could his team drive through the city with the premiership trophy proudly on display. The failure to finish above the scum and win the title hurt a lot, plus the meddling of the two yanks who have promised much yet so far have delivered so little of note didn't help. For me simply his time had run it's course. Staggered at the size of his payoff though. Who will be next? It will have to be a NAME the trouble is all the big boys are either in a job, very expensive or both.

Accrington Stanley won't have the same issues.:PDT_Xtremez_30:

I just wonder what would have been had DIC taken over instead of the yanks. Would so many promises have been broken? I think not as most Arabs I have encountered actually understand football and enjoy it, unlike spams. All I hope is someone with the ability to turn things round takes the helm and Micky and Donald feck right off.

A special mention must go out to (P)Rick Parry for advising on the sale of the club, was it really done for the best interest of the club or his own bank balance? *I'm not casting insinuations, just asking what I think to be a valid question.

Mick a nick "We did best when Phil Thompson was in charge whilst Houllier was sick. He should be brought back if available. "

Yes please. Then we can have a right laff as we try to guess "what colour is his hair going to be" as the dye changes each week when he appears on Sky Sports during the football season.

HK Wessex - His hair can be any colour (Red would be best) but his guidance during that period ensured we did well whilst the Houllier was sick.

Can the people who voted other say who they would like in as manager? I voted for big Guus as I can't think of anyone else who would be prepared to leave their current club who would be any better than Rafa, and as for Tommo he was a decent coach but as the spat with Fowler showed he can't handle the players well.

Anyone will do at the moment. As long as it's someone that doesn't have the philosophy of stopping the opposition instead of concentrating on your own stengths! Anyone but Mark Hughes anyway.......
