Wotcher ,
Since trying to join this esteemed gathering , I have read a few posts and realised that I am completely out of touch .
It seems that I left the RAF before some of you were born (hatched , found , created , please choose).
I am seriously at a loss when it comes to most of the abbrvtns ; being a careful sort of bloke I read the newly posted security warning and was immediately lost .
The abbs with which I am familiar are of the ASV/NBS/H2S era , so can some kind soul produce a list of current abbrvtns ? Otherwise , I am lost . Even my son , who is at an RAF Station not far from where I am sitting , cannot help . Mind you , in the job he's doing , people are careful how they talk to him in case he refuses their mostly outlandish requests .
So , chaps and WAAFS---see , how far back does that go ? -----be gentle with an old man who may put his foot in someone's tender sensibilities because of lack of knowledge of modern jargon .

PS. Clue . I have worked on Lancaster and Lincoln aircraft . And Sunderlands . And Vampires . And Ven.............

Don't worry matey, you'll be quite at home on here. Most of us oldies have'nt a clue what the young sprogs are banging on about. I can't claim to have worked on the same types as yourself, but I did break my teeth on 4 engined piston pounders. Welcome to the goat. :PDT_Xtremez_14:

Quite a few of us pre-date the 60's so just crack on and post tales of daring do from when NAAFI's really had a pigs bar. Welcome:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Bluddyell, you're even older than I am JM. Mind you, your screen name is a bit of a giveaway (for the uneducated and ignorant youth, Jet Morgan was the hero of a 50s radio SF saga called 'Journey Into Space'). 'Star Trek' in its various forms was all well and good but I much preferred 'Babylon 5' , it was so unintentionally funny. A bit like American students running around with broomsticks between their legs pretending they're playing Quidditch (H Potter - BTW I see Harry carrying out special Intelligence duties, Ron in the SIB and Hermione re-writing all the aerospace and battle systems software as well as being a volunteer medic.). Think Precisely, Act Deliberatedly, as the flight safety poster on the wall next to me used to say.

I used to listen to Jet Morgan. I even used to read the exploits of Dan Dare (Sqn Ldr) 'Pilot of the Future' (In the 'Eagle')

First aircraft I worked with were Vampires and Varsities.

You are in good company.

Old airmen never die, they fade into clouds.
