Over here in Civvy Land I get 26pm for fuel claims on my travel expenses. I can then claim another 18pm from the Taxman (Tosser) to bring it up to 44pm!!:PDT_Xtremez_30:

My Boss reckons this tax rule applies should and always has applied to the RAF!:PDT_Xtremez_03:

Bugger, 22 years of RAF motor mileage claims wasted if that's the case.::/: Any Allowances Gurus out there would like to confirm that this is a very well kept secret by the MOD or is the grass just greener in Civvy Land?

Chaka, if you find out where its written down about claiming from the taxman (tosser), myself and a few other thousand people would be very interested........

I've had a quick trawl this morning and couldn't find anything.

There is guidance for this and is normally published in orders (well here and at my last unit).

In a nut shell you can only claim tax relief on the difference betweeen 26 and 44 ie 22% of 18p!. The only millage that can be used is duty millage. Claims for home to duty/sport/college etc is not admissable. Additionally you may need to check your insurance as well because if you are using your car say instead of MT/Hire car then your insurance should be changed to business use. I have been down this route and if you wish to pm me to get a angle on your own situation then please do and I will advise as best I can.

Hope that helps

Cheers Beero for the advice. :PDT_Xtremez_28:

Like I said I'm a civvie now so I am claiming back my tax because I have been given the tip by my Boss. I just think claiming tax back is kept very quiet and might be worth investigating for those still in, especially if you are racking up those miles on duty (exc Home to Duty etc). :PDT_Xtremez_21:

Dont know if it helps but I submitted a claim for the tax refund on duty journeys 2 yrs ago. I did it then was I had found out that although it was only a couple pence per mile you could back date a single claim to include the 7 years of claims as a single tax rebate. For me it turned out to be worth a cheque for £750 which made it effort worth it.

Hope that helps.
